Continue ReadingWashington is in the midst of the revival of the big man and there is another available post player coming up in the 2020 class. Junior Will Abram of Arlington High School stands at 6’9, possesses a 7’0 wing span and his skill set is developing at a good rate. Most big men are a little bit slower in their development, so it takes some time to see the growth and maturation unfold as the years go by. Will’s game has really come along, since I first evaluated him as an 8th grader. The tall and uncoordinated 8th grader has grown into a strong inside presence that has a chance to play at the Division 1 level.
Player Eval:
Will is a strong post player that can impact the game on both sides of the ball. At 220 pounds and a +3 reach, he is comfortable banging inside the paint and mixing it up. Will is a classic big man that sets hard screens with a strong frame and rolls to the basket with physicality. This Spring he has been working on his footwork and finishing, which will take his game to another level once he becomes consistent with it. He is a solid athlete that can easily finish with a big dunk around the rim, but he is most explosive when blocking shots on the defensive end. He’s a legitimate rim protector that makes it difficult for opposing teams to score inside. The best basketball is ahead of Will Abram and he will very likely garner interest from Big Sky level schools due to his size, ceiling and coachability.
Spring Performance:
Will is running with FOH Seattle’s 17u team and has gotten off to a strong start this Spring season. One of our scouts at Prep Hoops was in attendance for the FOH versus Team LaVine nail-biter and came away impressed with Will’s potential as a college prospect when matched up with fellow 2020 recruit Mitchell Saxen. Friends of Hoop Head Coach Tom Eggers says, “Will is becoming a force defensively in the paint. If he continues to work on footwork, balance, and finishing – some D1 is going to get a good big guy – who has potential.”
Will and his FOH Seattle squad are scheduled to play in one more event this weekend at the Hoop Memorial Classic in Salem, Oregon before taking the month of June off. His club team will be back at it in the anticipated Battle in Seattle event July 6-7.
