And though the defensive-minded 2017 says he was pleased with the way he played this spring, he feels a bit under-the-radar still as he finishes his final high school offseason.
“I’ve attended quite a bit of elite camps this summer, and currently the recruiting has been slower than I’d like it to be,” said McGee. “
“I’m remaining hopeful that my recruiting activity will pick up as I enter the school year, at the D1 and D2 levels. And right now I’m just looking for the right exposure events and showcases to attend this summer and early fall.”
He added: “This past weekend I had a great week of ball (with Shining Stars). I really felt like I put myself out there as someone who can play at the next level. I feel like I let my game do the talking, and I feel like soon I will be getting some more contact from college coaches.”
McGee is just as concerned with academics as he is basketball, and the right fit for both is important to him.
He’s a disciplined defensive menace, with a desire to strive in the classroom.
“Defensively I think I’ve played fantastic this spring, and I think I did a great job of balancing my scoring and my decision-making — just making the right decision at the right time,” said McGee, who mentioned to PHO what he’d like to pursue as a major in college.
“If I had my wish it would be computer engineering. But I’m also interested in mathematics and things of that nature.”
