Rocket Watch
The wonderful Mark “Rocket” Watts Jr. pounded several more 15u teams into submission while visiting North Augusta, South Carolina this week.
Recruiting
In the last two days, Michigan, Ohio State, and Mississippi State all invested time evaluating the sparkling lead guard.
Oakland’s offer to Rocket Watts Jr. will have company in the coming weeks, if not sooner.
By his senior year Watts Jr. will certainly have multiple Big 10 offers. The only thing in question is who else will pursue the special marksman.
Bursts of Greatness
“Rocket went for 27 (Thursday) morning in a four-point loss to RM5,” said The Family 15u Assistant Coach Craig Covington Jr. “Then went for 27 again in a win against Alabama Challenge.”
Coach Covington coached Watts Jr. all winter, starting him as a freshman for Allen Academy.
Elite 100 was a wonderful opportunity for NIKE-aligned hoopers to compete against many of their elite peers. Watts attended and came away with an enhanced reputation.
This week Watts scorched the nets, as usual, but also stuck in defensively. Like a soldier digging his trench, Watts Jr. lowered his hips and dared point guards to drive around him. Blessed with a powerful upper body and unique quickness, Watts Jr. ripped player after player this way.
He is electric in the open floor and every steal found the bottom of the opposing net. His best play began with a recovered steal, after a Get Buckets (IL) guard blew a flat tire.
Casually, yet swiftly, Watts Jr. glided to the loose ball, mere inches before the stumbling guard arrived.
Watts Jr. out-quicked him to the ball, veering deep into the corner.
Without pause or even a glance he bounced it backwards towards the lane, where he apparently sensed a slashing teammate arriving.
Troy Lattimore caught it off the single perfectly placed bounce and added two to the onslaught.
Rocket knows where is going, where the ball is going, and where the defense is going. You might as well just enjoy the star along the way.
