Matthew Mors – South Dakota Attack, 2020
Every tournament has a player mulling a handful division one offers, gathering cameras. It’s that dude. This weekend, that dude was Matthew Mors.
Mors and Co. sidestepped the field during their 17U bracket run, eventually winning the championship against Team Factory. He scored effortlessly anywhere within the three-point arc, dusting defenders with the ever-efficient combination of power and quickness.
Apparently I’m not the only one he’s made an impression on either. So far, Mors has centered his recruitment in the midwest, boasting offers from Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, and Colorado.
Kobe Busch – South Dakota Attack, 2020
Yes, South Dakota Attack has a duo on here. But Mors and Busch were each set in their domains, as Mors did his thing inside while Busch was active (way) beyond the arc.
Busch’s three-ball was rolling all Saturday and Sunday. His size and elevated release allow him to shoot with defenders playing tight defense and an accurate stroke gives him both traits of a green light shooter.
Matthew Schubert – Iowa Mavs, 2020
Defenses had no answer for the center on offense. At 6’8, his post moves had that extra unguardable-ness to them, as he stirred up some lengthy scoring streaks during the tournament. He wasn’t touted as a top prospect coming into this tournament, but he left it with more of a name for himself.
That said, Iowa Mavs weren’t the most successful this weekend winning-wise. But, he still qualifies because of a second-half scoring spurt which gave them the win over Iowa United Select.
Alijah Armstrong – Inspired Athletics, 2021
Armstrong made an instant impression with me both times I watched him play. His most noteworthy trait was his quickness with the ball, especially driving past defenders on the perimeter. He added to that by displaying his finishing ability around the hoop, banking most of his points through the driving game.
