Team: Iowa Dynasty 15u
Record: 11-11
Program director: Nate Meints
Best tournament finish(es): 3-1 in Midwest Live
Team MVP: Beau Cornwell (West Branch) – Beau has played lights out for us. He has really improved his 3-pt shooting consistency which has lead to BIG scoring outputs this season. His ball handling and passing abilities have allowed him to become a facilitator.
Biggest surprise (player or team attribute/accomplishment): Jacob Klein (Iowa City West) / Ry Threlkeld-Wiegand (Iowa City High).
Looking at Jacob, your first thought is not basketball player. However he has been shooting the ball incredibly this year, knocking down outside shots at a high percentage. He is also one our teams biggest competitors, not backing down from anyone or any situation.
Ry Threlkeld-Wiegand is an intriguing prospect at 6’3 (and still growing). He has big time shooting ability from anywhere on the floor. His unselfishness and high bball IQ has lead to him to being one of our most important pieces.
Best defender: Beau Cornwell (West Branch) – his strength, quickness, and size give him the ability to guard positions 1-4 on the floor at any point in time.
Best team moment: Watching our guys’ relationships with each other continue to develop. There is a lot more trust and good communication going on which will lead to future success.
Evaluation of how your team preformed in the spring: We lost more close games than we would have liked. I believe we have learned from these experiences and now understand how to win close games down the stretch.
July schedule:
July 8-10 – Chicago Summer Slam
July 15-17 – Battle at the Arch
July 21-24 – MAYB
July goals (for team and/or individual players): Keep working hard in practice leading up the three tournaments and finish the season on a high note. Individually, Beau Cornwell and Ry Threlkeld-Wiegand will be playing up with our 16u team for a games in our last three tournaments…I am excited to see how they handle the change!
