Recruiting Report: Dariq Myles (2017)
Des Moines North’s 6-foot-3 small forward Dariq Myles has improved greatly over the last year, and looks to make a major impact in the CIML next season with the Polar Bears.
A truly versatile threat, Myles is strong and athletic enough to bang in the post, and is skilled enough to be an effective shooter and perimeter player.
One area Division III program has taken notice.
“The only school I’ve talked to is Central, but outside of that nothing. They wrote me an intro letter telling me they like my game and saying I should work on my defense, become more of a shooter, and to just keep up the good work,” said Myles, who is very interested in playing ball at the next level.
“I don’t want to stop my basketball in high school. I want to keep going. Obviously I’m not ready for the Division I level, but D3 or JuCo, I feel like I could go there for two years and then go to a bigger school, and keep working from there.”
Myles takes pride in his diverse skill-set, and says he’ll do whatever he needs to to help his team be successful.
“I would just say I’m a guy who can dribble a little bit and I can knock down the 3 pretty well. And I rebound and bang with the bigger guys, that’s what I think I do best,” said Myles.
“When we play Valley and big teams like that, I know I’ll have to get down in the paint and bang with the big guys” he said. “But when we play guard-heavy teams I know I’ll have to get out there and knock down some shots and be comfortable handling the ball.”
A role player off the bench last season, Myles averaged 1.8 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. He’ll have a much larger role during his upcoming senior season.
“My role last year was as a bench player, and to bring energy off the bench. And when I was in I was supposed to knock down shots and try and get some stops defensively. I couldn’t really do that because I didn’t have the skills. But I kept working harder and harder and I’m confident in my ability to do all that this summer and next season,” said Myles, who will continue to work this summer with Kingdom Hoops Red 17U.
“My plan is to go out there and work on my defense, guard faster, shifty guards, and try and become quicker laterally. And just keep rebounding even more, I just want to keep working harder and harder so I can get to that next level.”
