Super 16 (Ames): Saturday Game Recaps
8:00 (15u) — Iowa Attack Red 58 vs Phenom/Prodigy Elite (MN) 52
This was a wildly entertaining game, and in the end it was a trio of All Iowa Attack standouts that were the biggest difference makers. The Minnesota team, led by Patrick Henry (Minneapolis) point guard D’Sean Larkins, held a seven point lead midway through the second half — that’s when Cole Glasgow, Corey Phillips and eighth-grader Chase Henderson took control for Attack. The three of them were key in orchestrating a 23-10 run to end the game, lifting their team to a six-point win in the process. Glasgow, a Dallas Center-Grimes product, led all scorers with 21. Larkins led the Minnesota squad with 19 points.
Jordan Boltz
9:05 (16u) — Crossfire 51 vs Iowa Prep Black 36
This one was 10-2 Crossfire early, and Iowa Prep never could recover. The guys from Minnesota got a big game from 6’3 Maple Grove sophomore Jordan Boltz, and Crossfire won this one with ease. Boltz put in 11 first half points, propelling his team to a 24-16 halftime lead, Iowa Prep could never get back into striking distance. Still, the Iowa team had a trio of guys who impressed; sharpshooter Conner Rochford canned four 3s in the loss and Kole Becker — a freshman playing up a grade — is a lengthy wing with some skill, Carter Swope is a gritty, effective stretch-four.
D’Sean Larkins
10:10 (16u) — Prodigy/Phenom 81 vs Iowa Flight 40
This was the biggest blowout of the day, and it was a pair of talented Minneapolis guards that made it so. Tyson Dallas scored a game-high 16 points, all of them at the rim. D’Sean Larkins, who also excelled in the 15u Prodigy/Phenom game earlier in the morning, was great again, going for 10 points. The talent gap in this game was evident right out of the gates, and the Minnesota guys led 44-16 at half. Ankeny sophomore Cole Wehde was a bright spot for Iowa Flight, the 6’1 guard scored a game-high 17 points, including four 3s.
Mikey Chase
11:15 (16u) — Iowa Elite 49 vs Iowa Prep Black 37
This game was knotted at 20 heading into the break, but a relentless and athletic Iowa Elite squad was able to get some separation right out the gates in the second half and cruised to the 14-point win. Dowling sophomore Mikey Chase was good from start to finish, the 6’1 guard scored a game-high 12 points. For Iowa Prep, it was Hudson big-man Carter Swope who again impressed, controlling the glass and scoring a team-high 11 points.
Connor Drew
12:20 (16u) — All Iowa Attack 76 vs BBA Force 67
This was a fun game and it was by far the highest level of hoops we saw today. This All Iowa Attack unit is one of the more talented in Iowa, headlined by top 2021 guys Karson Sharar, Angelo Winkel, Connor Drew and newcomers Marcus Morgan and Trevion LaBeaux. Sharar, Iowa’s 2nd-ranked 2021, was ready to go in warm-ups and seemed to have tweaked something forcing him to sit this one out. Ballard big-man Drew, though, did his part to pick up the slack, going for a game-high 16 points in the wire-to-wire win. Albia’s Blake Chance scored 12 for Attack, Iowa City West guard Morgan scored 11.
