This year’s group of D2 recruits is very unique with the fact that multiple players that truly could have gone Division 1 if they waited to sign in the spring, signed D2 in the Fall. Most have signed with nationally respected programs in the GNAC and have a real opportunity to receive a lot of playing time and be apart of winning programs. Fit > Level is true in so many cases and what many people do not realize is just how good the basketball is at the D2 level. These seniors and soon to be college freshman will also be finding out soon enough. Here are the 7 D2 signees to this point!
2019 6’4 SG Zack Paulsen (Curtis HS) – Seattle Pacific University got a great leader, teammate and tough player all in one. The skilled scorer will join one of the best schools in the GNAC.
2019 6’4 SF Clayton Whitman (Lynden HS) – Another in-state signee for Seattle Pacific University. Clayton will provide some athleticism, basketball IQ and work ethic for the Falcons. After a successful summer with Seattle Select, coached by Chase Young, Clayton went on some visits and eventually chose SPU.
2019 6’6 SG Shaw Anderson (Kelso HS) – The third player to have signed at Seattle Pacific University from Washington. Shaw Anderson was the Larry Bird of this year’s 3A state tournament. Too skilled, too smart and flat out too good for any individual or team to stop. He is a prime example of skill over athleticism.
2019 6’2 G Micah Pollard (Foss HS) – Foss Head Coach, Josh Barsh, told me that Micah was the best player in Tacoma this year and he did his best to prove that during his outstanding senior season. Micah is a dynamic athlete with a knack for scoring, mixed in with some Tacoma toughness. The Foss standout will be playing at Central Washington University next season.
2019 5’8 G Kenneth Curtis (Rainier Beach HS) – Kenny can get hot from three at any point during a ball game. The ultra-quick guard from Beach will be playing at Saint Martin’s University next season.
2019 6’6 PF Isaiah Sampson (Camas HS) – The strong forward from down south in Washington will be playing at Humboldt State University of the GNAC. After a strong senior campaign where he made first team all-league, Isaiah finally came down to his decision and looks to continue to develop for the next level.
2019 6’4 PG Griffin Effenburger (Lewis and Clark HS) – The skilled guard out of Spokane will head to South Dakota to suit up for Black Hills State University of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
