- G Tykevious Curry (Calhoun County; Class A-Public)
- Curry had arguably the best performance in his championship match-up regardless of class. The floor general for Calhoun County helped the Cougars finish off a perfect 32-0 season by knocking off the Truetlen Vikings 69-67. Curry, who finished with 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists had the game winning assist as the speedy lefty raced down the floor with 7 seconds remaining and dished off a nice bounce pass to teammate Quandarious Powell for the game winning lay-up with 2 seconds remaining. The sophomore guard knows how to control tempo, handle pressure with his crafty ball handling skills, and has good finishing ability on both sides of the rim. Curry, who has also received 1st team All-State honors this season, will be running with the Wolverine Basketball Club out of Dothan, Alabama this AAU season in the 16 and under division.
- F Robbie Armbrester (Therrell; Class AA)
- In a slow paced game where points were limited and possessions were precious, the 6’6” sophomore found a way to make an impact in this game. Armbrester finished the game with 10 points (5-6 FG) and 4 rebounds in a 51-49 win for the Therrell Panthers over Vidalia, capping off a 25-8 season. Armbrester is a bruiser on the low block from a physical standpoint with big time athleticism to play above the rim consistently. He has good touch when he can’t get to the rim and an improving perimeter game to make him an overall tough cover defensively. Another All-State selection, Armbrester will run with a talented “Team Tuff” squad that has several notable sophomores around the Peach State.
- W Jusuan Jolt (St. Francis; Class A-Private)
Tykevious Curry- Jolt got off to a very fast start in his state championship match-up, scoring the first eight points and keeping St. Francis afloat in the first half against Eagles Landing Christian Academy. Ultimately his Knights team won 72-68 and Jolt finished with an efficient day shooting 6-7 from the field, 2-3 from three-point range, and 2-2 from the line. What stood out about Jolt’s performance outside the points, was his activity on both ends of the floor elsewhere. He finished the game with 9 rebounds (5 offensive) and 5 assists. He has good size to play the off guard position and showed a good stroke from the perimeter. The Knights of St. Francis only have one senior starter leaving the program after this season so expect good things from Jolt and company next season in the Class A-Private division.
- W Shane Webb (Hart County; Class AAA)
- The athletic wing from Hart County is the first sophomore on our list that didn’t come away with a state championship but his effort on the floor should leave Bulldog fans happy with what’s to come. The 6’3” off guard jumps at you with his length as he effects shots at the rim, shoots gaps for steals, and ensures offensive possessions with his defensive rebounding ability. Webb was able to connect on several field goals, finishing with 11 points and 5 assists in the 68-54 loss to Morgan County. Webb is another lefty that can stretch the floor with his good looking perimeter jump shot and knack for getting to the rim off the bounce. He has tremendous upside as a two-way player and it will be intriguing to see his development over the next two seasons.
- ’21 G Peyton Daniels (Tri-Cities; AAAAAA)
- Daniels is the last sophomore on our list that made a lasting impressive on the state championship stage. This game between the Tri-Cities Bulldogs and Tucker Tigers went viral as the Bulldogs won on a buzzer beating 3-point field goal by senior guard Da’Marcus Johnson. The game was won by Johnson but Daniels made big plays throughout the contest as well to put them in a position to be successful at the very end. The 6’2” guard finished the game with 12 points, all coming from behind the arc and looked good coming off screens to shoot the ball well beyond collegiate range. Daniels also snagged 5 rebounds and was another for sure ball handler when on ball pressure was present. He plays well beyond his years with his calm approach to the game and ability to score on all three levels. If last year is any indication, he will run with Stackhouse Elite on the Addias Circuit this off-season.
