In the first quarter, both teams came out hot. River Valley took a marginal 20-16 lead. Dylan Johnson was big in the opening quarter, scoring seven of his 11 total points.
In the second we seen some back and forth ball, but the Vikings were able to head to half with a nine point lead. Going to the half leasing 36-27, Valley had slight control of this one.
The Vikings were able to leave the third quarter with a 15 point lead, in prime position to never look back. However, Galion’s Isaiah Alsip was doing his part, scoring seven in the quarter.
River Valley forced turnovers and crashed the boards big time in the final quarter. But, taking this one, Aj Kenney had a nice final period. With six points and nine rebounds, he led the Vikings to a 17 point-win.
River Valley gets another one in the win column, moving to 6-13 on the season. The Galion Tigers fell to 6-12, on the aging season.
Five Game Questions:
1. Who was tonight’s top scorer: Galion’s Isaiah Alsip did his part in putting up a game high 22 points. The Junior got it done from inside, out and a deadly mid-range pull up. Also, the athletic guard has a quick first step, that gets him into prime position to score. With 14 points in the middle quarters, that’s exactly what kept Galion in it, until late. But, the standout Tiger is a solid talent, and a player to keep an eye on.
2. Who was the best defensive player tonight?: River Valley’s Adam Hawk was the standout defender tonight. The big man had a a block and a couple steals, but affected the game more then that. Making it tough inside for the Tigers, whenever he was on the court. Also, able to use his long frame to his advantage, to force turnovers.
3. What kind of impact is AJ Kenney?: The 6’5 Senior got off to a slow start, but it didn’t last for long. With 16 points and 17 rebounds tonight, Kenney was a force inside for the Vikings. Also, with a big frame, the Senior has a multitude off affective post-moves. With 10 points in the second half, Kenney was a big part of River Valley blowing the game open. A nine rebound fourth quarter was also big for the go to player. Also, Kenney is a legit 20-20 threat, that is tough to defend inside.
4. Who was the best floor general?: Ethan Bell did a great job of running the RV offense tonight. With four assists, and countless other would be assists, Ethan had things moving. The lead guard was a big part of the offense, as the lead distributor. But, running plays with great effectiveness, that worked, was also a strength. Also, a high IQ player on the court tonight.
5. Who was the best player off of the bench tonight?: River Valley Sophomore Year Dylan Johnson was a game changer. The athletic Johnson can shoot it, and has blow by speed as well. However, with seven of his 11 points in the opening quarter, it was a quick spark he gave his team. Also, Johnson is a player that has good tools already to his game.
