A tough battle all the way, after a quarter, the Spartans led 17-14. Clear Fork’s Brennan South ring in a deep three pointer as he hit the ground to end the period.
Pleasant head to the locker room, with solid momentum. Leading 32-26, Gage Williams was responsible for eight of his 12 points in the first half.
In the third period, things got interesting as Clear Fork was able to take a 45-40 lead. Brennan South led the way in the quarter, scoring six of his 13 points.
The fourth quarter, Pleasant maintained big time momentum from Ethan Warner and never looked back. The Senior scored seven of his 14 points in the final quarter, as well as a big time block, in route to their win.
Pleasant moved on to 14-5, also, 9-3 in conference play. Now, just one game back from Clear Fork.
The Colts dropped a game to 16-4, and 10-2 in conference play. Also, winning out will give Clear Fork the MOAC title.
Five Game Questions:
1. Who was the standout player for Pleasant?: Nick Kimmel was the best all-around player for the Spartans on Friday night. In the big win, Nick put up 13 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals. Not his biggest scoring performance, but the ability to knock down timely shots was impressive. The Senior put together a solid rebounding outing, that you don’t often see. Often running the offense, Kimmel worked well with or without the ball. Also, a solid on ball defender tonight.
2. Who was Clear Fork’s best player?: Tonight, AJ Blubaugh had a solid performance. Putting up 14 points, the Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball commit got things done in multiple ways. Knocking down two three-pointers, the Senior also showed the ability to get to the rack. But, with a lengthy frame, Blubaugh was the culprit of four steals on the night. A solid two-way outing for the Colt.
3. Who was the best defender overall?: A real difference maker that stood out to me tonight was the on-ball pressure by Gage Runda. The guard is a bit undersized, but has the toughness and quickness to stay with ball handlers. Picking guys up the length of the court was often the theme. The Senior didn’t show up in the stat sheet a lot, but was a difference maker definitely.
4. Best player off of the bench?: Brady Tedrow of Clear Fork really had a nice output off the bench. In the second quarter, going for six of his 10 points was big. Really keeping the Colts in it, and not letting the Pleasant lead grow. Tedrow showed the ability to score off the dribble in the mid-range, as well as getting to the hole.
5. How was Pleasant able to pull off the upset?: Pleasant used a game of runs, and a solid game plan to overcome the Clear Fork Colts. Any time Clear Fork would go on a run, Pleasant had an answer for them, especially in the fourth when Ethan Warner took over. The Spartans played a solid defensive game, getting steals and forcing turnovers. Also, the ball never stopped on offense for Pleasant. Keeping the Colts on their heels, Pleasant was able to beat the defense in a hull of ways.
