Certainly one of the most impressive players in the gym on Saturday afternoon, Johnson is a human Pogo Stick….but we’ve always known that. What’s been most impressive about the blossoming wing has been watching his skill-set develop over the last two years. He can hit a triple or a mid-range, and handles the ball adeptly. He’s in-line for a breakout season next winter.
2017 Jacob Rau, 6’7 C, Waukee
One of the best true bigs in the state, Rau is a patient and poised center with an array of moves and soft touch around the rim. He’ll be instrumental to the Warriors’ success nest season, and should command some D2 attention as his summer unfolds.
2019 Noah Hart, 6’1 PG, Waukee
The top-10 2019 was getting some substantial playing time with a very good Waukee team, and it seems as though he’ll be ready to come in as a backup point guard and make a difference right away next season. He’s got a tighter handle than I remember him having, and though he looks to distribute more than he does shoot, he’s still always be a threat with his jumper.
2018 Eric Milewsky, 5’9 G Urbandale
A well-built and extremely athletic guard, Milewsky is poised for a breakout junior season next winter with the J-Hawks. I saw out-jumped everyone on the court against Waukee for a jaw-dropping offensive rebound, which at 5-foot-9 was striking. And his blow-by ability allows him to get most of his buckets at the rim.
2017 Carter Mumm, 5’10 G, Ames
I’ve always been a fan of Mumm, and believe that he’s ready to make a big impact on the CIML best winter during his senior season. He’s a savvy, crafty and skilled guard, who is always calm and creates space well. His jumper is his best asset, and he’ll only get better this summer playing with one of the state’s best grassroots teams, All Iowa Attack Black.
2018 Joe Evans, 6’2 G/F, Ames
He’s a big-bodied wing with some height and he moves much better than you’d expect. He’s quick to the hoop with the ball in his hands, and sturdy frame allows him to finish through contact. The bruiser averaged nearly 10 points per game last season as a sophomore and should improve on that next winter.
2017 Sam Olson, 6′ G, Dowling
Dowling rolled out a three guard starting five, and Olson was the third, along with returning starters Joey Kern and Sam Ingoli. Olson was the best of the three in the game I saw, scoring a team-high 16 points against Ames, and willing his way at times to the bucket. He’s a sharpshooter with a nice handle, high-motor, and a competitor. Olson is just a solid player.
2018 Joseph Evans, 6’8 PF, Dowling
Evans is a very intriguing junior-to-be. He came off the bench to start against Ames, but started the second half, and though still a bit raw/timid, I could see him as a starting big alongside John Waggoner when the season starts next winter. Evans is very long and bouncy, which coupled with his 6’8 frame makes him a shot-blocking/offensive-rebound threat. He also flashed a pretty nice stroke on his mid-range. The future is bright for this Dowling 2018.
