After only winning a couple games last year, the Seniors final go around couldn’t be any better. Sitting at 8-5 on the season, and 5-2 in the Ohio Cardinal Conference. The Arrows are in prime position to accomplish a successful season.
Photo Credits: Ashland Times GazetteGarrett Denbow is a big part of that. The unsigned Senior is averaging 21 PPG, 7.3 RPG to go with a couple assists per game. Denbow is also shooting a blazing 92% from the free-throw line. Also, with over 60 attempts, which is impressive for a high schooler.
A scorer from all level, the 6’5 stud has a smooth release three-ball, that is money. However, with a good handle on the ball, can work through the lane and finish through contact. Also, an active defender on defense, that uses his frame to his advantage.
I was able to catch up with Garrett a bit, after having already covering a couple of his impressive performances this year. The undeclared Senior holds an offer from Charleston, and has been in contact with Wofford, West Liberty and Ashland as of late. I asked Garrett what he was looking for in the next level. He said, “I’m looking for a place with the best fit, a place where I have great relationships with my teammates and coaches. Just a place that feels like home”. Which is what it’s all really about, being comfortable, where you’ll do your best.
I also asked Denbow about the best part of his game, and what he does best for his team. Garrett answered, “Being a coach out on the floor, the best part of my game is that I can score from all three levels, and guard multiple positions”. Which, I couldn’t agree more with, seeing it first person.
Carrying a 3.7 GPA, the basketball standout isn’t only a gem on the court, but also the classroom. To continue getting better, Garrett mentioned he wants to “put on more muscle, and improve athleticism”, which would definitely take the Ashland Arrow star’s game to the next level in development.
With LM-D1 interest to a high D2 priority, any school with a need for a gym rat that gets it done on the hardwood. As well as the classroom, look no further than Ashland High School.
