Prospect Spotlight: James Glenn (2021)
Southeast Polk got a bit of a makeover this season, with a new coach and a pair of new players, James Glenn and Sam Glenn.
James, a 5-foot-10 sophomore guard, has maybe been the biggest breakout sophomore in the CIML this season, and could emerge as a sought-after college prospect this summer.
Always a sharpshooter, James is still that. But it’s his ability to handle the rock and pass it, along with his hoops savvy, that’s been most striking this season.
“I feel like I’ve always been known as just a shooter, but this year, I’m trying to expand my game,” said James. “And I feel like I used to be a detriment on defense, but now I’m trying to get that better. And I’m trying to be more of a leader for my team and create a lot of offense for my teammates.”
James was a freshman last season with Class 1A state title team Grand View Christian; he averaged 1.4 points per game for the Thunder. Now, he’s the second-leading scorer (behind only older brother, James) for a red-hot Southeast Polk squad.
“It was kind of a slow start for the team, but it feels like we’re really rolling now. The guys have really welcomed me in, and knew that I could play at this level, so they all made it work pretty well,” said James, who’s averaging 10 points per game and connecting on 40 percent of his 3s.
“The entire team, we’re really just trying to build for not only the future, but try and be the best we can the rest of the year. For me, I’m just trying to keep my numbers up the way they have been, to help the team.”
When his sophomore season is finished, James will head into his 16U offseason with Beyond Ball. He’s eager for the opportunity to play in front of some college coaches.
“I know (Beyond Ball program director) John Lamb will put us in the best position possible to gain exposure,” said James. “I haven’t really had any colleges looking at me yet, but I think this will be a big summer to start that.”
