The versatile 6-foot-6, 200-pound swingman’s numbers are very close to that at mid-season and there’s still league play to go. Sampson recently impressed by notching a double-double by halftime in a game at Sunset High School in Portland and he’s hopeful that the production will lead to his first college offers.
“I’ve just been trying to stay aggressive the entire game and be dominant on the court,” Sampson said. “I’m looking to be aggressive with rebounds and look for my teammates as well. I’m just kind of doing everything I can on the floor.”
When we chatted with Sampson in the fall, he had recently been doing some work with his college recruitment, having visited George Fox. While he’s honed in now on his senior season, he continues to hear from college coaches.
“I’ve been talking to a lot of D-IIs and NAIA schools right now,” Sampson said, listing Chico State, Humboldt State, Lewis-Clark State, St. Martin’s, and Western Oregon as some of the schools that have been in contact. “They’ve been talking about their programs and saying they’re going to come out and watch,” he added.
Sampson would certainly love to get his first scholarship offer but he’s committed to playing out the year before making any decisions. Camas has a great shot at making the playoffs and Sampson will play a big role in their chase. “We’ve just been competing in practice and I think we’re going to be ready for league,” Sampson said. “It’s going to be pretty competitive but we’re going to be ready for it.”
Sampson currently ranks as the #56 player in the PrepHoops Washington Class of 2019 rankings.
