Hurt is the fourth ranked player in the nation for the 2019 and the top senior player in the state of Minnesota. Hurt recently took an official trip to Kentucky.
“I saw a good practice the day before a game,” Hurt said to 247 Sports. “I saw a good shoot-around and then just the fans being so involved with their school, they’re always cheering. I saw a lot of fans there early to support the team and that meant a lot and it shows me that their fanbase is behind them.
“I got (to Kentucky) Friday, went out for lunch, they had practice from 2:30-4:30 and after that I went back to the hotel and then we had dinner at Tony’s, then I hung out with Tyler (Herro). Saturday, I worked out, they had shoot-around in the morning because they had a 1:00pm game so they had shoot-around at 8:00am and then we had pre-game meal, got a good breakfast in and then it was game time.
“I thought it was pretty cool and after the game we celebrated, went to Coach (John Calipari’s) house, got some food and chilled with the team the rest of the night.”
Hurt enters his senior year with 2,751 career points good for 15th on the all time list in Minnesota. Barring some type of injury that forces Matt to miss many games he will be a top five scorer in Minnesota all time and will finish as the big school basketball career leading scorer. Hurt’s John Marshall Rockets are ranked 8th in the state.
The schedule is heavy with Big Nine games and noteworthy non-league contests but on breaks Matt is going to be taking official visits throughout the winter.
“I’m going to take an official visit to North Carolina (in two weekends) for UNC vs Gonzaga which is the 15th of December. Then I’m going to take an official visit to Duke in January for the Duke versus Virginia game, whichever weekend that is and then I’m going to visit Kansas in February I think.”
Hurt will likely see three other schools this winter as well.
(The fifth visit) it’s between three schools Villanova, Minnesota and Memphis. (I’m going to visit one) and I can still take unofficials to the other two that I didn’t have an official on.”
Hurt expects to decide in April.
