Prospect Spotlight: John Christofolis (2021)
In today’s games, there are a lot of shot creators! Players work on their ball handling moves, side steps, step backs and fadeaway shots more than ever before. Shooting Guard John Christofolis is not only a shot creator, but more importantly a shot MAKER. O’Dea High School’s rising star gets outstanding elevation on his jump shot and his shooting mechanics are very consistent, which allows for consistent results. His freshman season playing under disciplinarian Jason Kerr was impressive, averaging nearly 10 points per game on a 24-6 state tournament team.
John carried the teachings from Coach Kerr into the summer and played extremely well! He grew a lot from the experience of playing a grade level up in the Nike EYBL against the best 16U competition in the country. He is one of countless players we have spoken to that has mentioned how much they love the exposure that playing for Rotary provides, as well as the chemistry with teammates. His play has catapulted him into the conversation of being a top 100 player nationally and he currently ranks at number four in Washington in our initial launch of the 2021 rankings. A lot has been said about John’s shooting ability, but at nearly 6’4 and 185 pounds, the sharp shooter also has good size and sneaky athleticism finishing in the paint. The next steps for John will be working on his vocal leadership and and moving without the ball. John is fully equipped to play off the bounce, but some shots will come a bit easier as he learns play off the ball just as well.
Recruitment Update:
John currently holds Division 1 offers from hometown UW and Coach Dan Majerle of Grand Canyon University has also thrown an offer on the table. PAC-12 schools such as Colorado and Oregon State have recently shown interest and Pepperdine and Portland State are also in contact. He has no visits scheduled at this time.
Playing for the legendary Coach Jason Kerr:
“I love playing for Coach Kerr. He has taught me so much about the game of basketball and about playing great team-first basketball. Coach Kerr also prepares us for all of our competition. He is really good at preparing us for the team we are playing! He is also always willing to help and he wants his players to grow and get to the next level, wherever that may be”- John Christofolis
Definitely be on the lookout for this young man and enjoy the next three years that we will be able to enjoy his talents. Some Seattle area basketball fans are hoping that he will stay home at UW and enjoy some college years as well!
