Team Preview: Waxahachie
Prep Hoops Take:
Waxahachie lost their three leading scorers from last season and also moved up to 6A, so it would seem that the Indians could struggle this year. However, the Indians received a (literally) BIG transfer from Little Elm High School in Darius Miles. The 6A Indians also received another key transfer a couple of weeks ago in 2020 5’9″ point guard B.J. Francis from Duncanville High School. These two pickups will be big for Coach Gober’s team to go along with C.J. Noland a talented 2021 guard and J.T. Warren a top 100 player in the state for 2019. Waxahachie will have to get through teams such as: Cedar Hill, Desoto and South Grand Prairie to have a chance to win their district and it will not be an easy task, but Coach Gober will make sure his team will be up for the challenge.
Top Players:
Darius Miles / 6’11” / Center / 2020
Darius is a big body post man that has soft hands to go with decent footwork on the low block. He is also a good rebounder that uses his length to grab boards over smaller defenders. The big man still has to continue to get into shape to be able to play at a high level for a longer stretch. He also needs to use his body more on the block to punish opposing defenders. Has a very high ceiling and is a consistent motor away from being a possible high major prospect.
J.T. Warren / 6’3” / Small Forward / 2019
J.T. is a good three point shooter that has a solid feel for the game. Mr. Warren as a three-year varsity veteran will have to be the vocal leader for this young Indians in order for them to be successful.
C.J. Noland / 6’2” / Point Guard / 2021
C.J. is built like a linebacker, but don’t let his size fool you! He is quick with the rock in his hands and uses his strong body to bully defenders when he attacks the lane. C.J. is a solid playmaker that finds his teammates for easy baskets. He needs to work on his lateral quickness on the defensive end.
