Prospect Spotlight: Malga Yanga (2019)
Storm Lake wing Malga Yanga was sneaky good last season as a junior, and comes into his senior season with major expectations for him and his team.
The 6-foot-4 shooting guard was spending is spring and summer with Beyond Ball 17U. He was honing his abilities and preparing for what could be a special winter.
“I like playing fast-paced and getting my teammates involved. And then just knocking down shots, mid-range and 3s,” said Yanga.
“The most important thing for me right now is just getting in the weight-room and getting bigger and just getting in the gym.”
Yanga’s Beyond Ball squad was traveling all around the country during the spring and summer. He says the experience was key.
“It was a really good experience playing with some really good players and having John Lamb coach me,” said Yanga.
“I think I played pretty good, I really liked playing with Beyond Ball.”
Now, he’s continuing to prepare for his senior season with Storm Lake, a squad that not only returns some key talent, but has some fresh faces coming in.
As a junior, Yanga averaged 12.7 points and three rebounds per game. He also led the 11-10 Tornadoes in blocks and 3s made.
“We got some new people coming in, and we got some guys that I’ve played with for awhile. We’re looking better than last year,” said Yanga.
“A personal goal for me is to make First Team All Lakes Conference.”
As for recruitment, it’s been a little slow. One school, Buena Vista there in Storm Lake, has been keeping a close eye on him. And he mentioned Sioux Falls has been in contact with him.
“I just hope I make it,” Yanga said. “I’m going to keep working on my game and hopefully I can play college ball.”
