Prospect Spotlight: Max Lampe (2020)
A sleeper squad in Class 4A this season (although we have them ranked No. 10) will be Cedar Rapids Prairie, thanks in large part to a group of still-unknown, but soon to be impact juniors.
Max Lampe, a 6-foot-6 power forward, is one of the guys who will headline a strong junior class for the Hawks.
He’s a skilled big with great vision, who can knock down a 3-ball on occasion. And he’s been working hard to continue and elevate his game.
“I’ve been working a lot on quickness, my ball-handling, a lot of footwork stuff. And I’m hoping all of that contributes to helping our team make a run to state,” said Lampe.
The big and versatile junior was showcasing his ability this summer with Iowa Dynasty 16U. And was able to not only improve, but catch the eyes of some area college coaches, too.
“This summer was a good summer for me, I talked to a few NAIA colleges from Nebraska. In the beginning of the year we were shaky, but then we got going later on,” said Lampe.
“I had some opportunities late in the season to showcase myself a little more, so that was good.”
With a core group of seniors returning, including sharpshooting brothers Keegan and Kris Murray, there’s a lot to be optimistic about at Prairie this winter.
“It’s a veteran team with plenty of returning seniors, and one of them is in my position, so, obviously my goal is to go out there and contribute in any way possible,” said Lampe.
“With the Murrays there, my main job will be to grab the boards, control the paint and get the ball back to them.”
He added: “Open gyms have been crazy competitive with everyone there. I’m excited, the team’s excited, and if we get our defense down, I think we’ll have a pretty good year.”
