Prospect Spotlight: Sean Geertsema (2019)
Division III and NAIAs are continuing to keep a close eye on Independence point guard Sean Geertsema.
The 6-foot-2 senior is coming off the heels of a monster junior season and successful 17U offseason with Iowa Prep, where he worked to develop his body and finishing skills.
“I worked more on my strength and driving to the basket. The summers before, my strengths were shooting from the perimeter, so I spent this summer in the weight room and taking the ball to the basket,” said Geertsema.
“It was a great team (Iowa Prep), we had a lot of great players. We all shared the ball pretty well and had a lot of guys that could put it in the basket. We just had a really good time.”
As a junior at Independence, Geertsema averaged 14.4 points, 4.6 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. His senior season, he’ll need to see those numbers balloon.
“I’m going to have to look to score more now, especially in the beginning part of the season because we don’t have a lot coming back from last year,” said Geertsema.
As for the recruitment, he’s hoping to be able to land some college hoops opportunities before too long.
“No offers yet, but I’ve been talking to Coe for a while now and Dordt still is in the mix, Mount Mercy is in there too; those are the main three,” said Geertsema.
“I haven’t looked too much into the difference between NAIA and D3, I guess it doesn’t really matter too much to me right now, just as long as it’s a good school.”
