Prospect Spotlight: Alec Brown (2021)
The wealth of talent coming through the Davenport North system right could render them one of the state’s most dangerous teams in years to come. Five-foot-9 point guard Alec Brown is one of the many talented young guards coming through.
Quick and skilled, Brown is a guy that takes pride in his ability to spread the floor with his jumper and find his teammates for buckets.
“My strength is that I can spread out the floor, I like to drive and kick it out to my teammates and make them better and also if I have an opportunity I like to take it to the rim or get a shot up,” said Brown. “I feel like my shot has gotten better and my confidence has gotten better.”
This past spring and summer, Brown was a key piece for Iowa Mavericks’ top 15U unit. He said his main objective was to lead the team as best he could.
“I’m the point guard so I’m supposed to be the leader on the floor, so if my attitude is bad, it messes up the whole game,” said Brown. “So, I’ll try and be cool, and I try and keep my teammates’ intensity up so we can win the game.”
Now, with his sophomore season on the horizon, Brown says he’ll embrace his role as the leader of the sophomore team.
“I want to play sophomore ball, that’s just because I want to be a leader and help the other guys,” said Brown. “I want to help other guys get better so when we get to that varsity level we can make a state championship run.”
