Great shooters are hard to come by, and many players can shoot the 3 point ball, but not with great consistency. Only a talented shooter will find ways to make the long ball against zones, tight man-to-man defense, or heavily contested shots. The players below have shown they are great shooters and several have only begun to show us what they are capable of. Here is a look at Dayton’s Most Underrated Shooters.
Matt Cogan (2019) Carroll- Cogan is one of the top returning players for a Patriots team that made a run to the District title last season. At 6’2, he is a tall for a guard but uses his skill behind the arc. Shooting 38% from 3-point range a year ago, he should continue to be one of the better shooters in the GCL next season.
Malachi Matthews (2019) Trotwood-Madison- A great sharpshooter for a loaded Trotwood team, Matthews is a great catch-and-shoot player and gives the Rams a consistent scoring threat from long range. A 45% shooter, Malachi has a real opportunity to become a double digit average scorer in 2018-19.
Corey Hartman (2019) Miamisburg- Hartman is one of a few returning seniors for the Vikings. With the loss of Jason Hubbard, Hartman will have an opportunity to see an increase in his scoring in 2018-19. One of his better skillsets are his 43% shooting from 3PT range. Keep an eye on Corey next year.
Noah Walker (2019) Greenville- Truly an underrated guard, Walker led the Green Wave in scoring last season and was their top three point shooter as well. In addition, Walker set the single season record at Greenville for three-pointers in a season with 73 total for the year. Noah will be one of the best underrated players in SW Ohio in 2018.
Alex Hurley (2019) Waynesville- Hurley made massive improvements in 2017-18 going from 2 points per game to 13. One way he improved on that number was his sharpshooting. A 42% shooter, Hurley became the Spartans 2nd leading scorer last year and could turn a few heads in 2018.
Zach Minton (2020) Franklin- Minton had a breakout sophomore season last year. A 41% 3PT shooter, he has potential to continue to improve and become a top player in the SWBL. He is one of the top 2020 prospects in the league.
Brevan King (2019) Graham- Last season’s leading scorer for the Falcons, King made himself known as one of the top under-the-radar CBC players. A 39% 3PT shooter, he has great potential to be All-Conference next season.
Evan Noffke (2019) Northwestern- A 38% shooter last year, Evan was a strong scoring option in the backcourt for Northwestern last year. He has potential to be a breakout star next year.
Allan Latimore (2021) Stivers- The Tigers leading scorer a year ago, Latimore has only scratched the surface of his potential. A 60% shooter last year, Allan will form a talented backcourt with point guard Trevon Ellis and the Tigers.
