Francisco’s Finest: UAA Finals 2019 Stock Raisers
HENDERSON, Nev.— It reached 119 degrees in “Sin City” but it was nice and cool—more like chilly—in the friendly confines of Coronado High School where Under Armour presented their additon of club basketball madness—The UAA Finals. There were a plethora of eye-catching moments as well as some stellar prospects—young and old—including 2020 Anthony Edwards and 2019 Nico Mannion. In this segment we’ll look at those that raised their stock at this event.
Brock Ravet (Kittitas/WA) Club Team: Supreme
2019, PG, 6-foot-1, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: Gonzaga snagged a good one in the well-rounded Mr. Ravet. He is a true point guard who does a masterful job of changing speeds, utilizing the jump stop, and playing efficiently. He can nail the 3-point shot off the dribble or off the catch, toss in a runner, or snap the appropriate pass to an open shooter.
Paxson Wojcik (La Lumiere/IN) Club Team: Illinois Wolves
2019, CG, 6-foot-5, 180 pounds
Joel’s Take: “Moxie” is one of the 1st terms that comes to mind with Wojcik. The left-handed do-everything guard impacts the game at both ends due to his determined mindset, skill, and IQ. Defensively, he has long arms, active hands, and as a result causes deflections and turnovers. Offensively, he can play all three perimeter positions and is equally effective as a scorer as he is a game manager.
Oscar Lopez (Bishop Montgomery) Club Team: West Coast Elite
2019, WF, 6-foot-5, 190 pounds
Joel’s Take: There are not too many prospects that have risen their stock as much as Lopez since the spring. We began to see the elevation in his game during the playoffs. However, his game has gone to new heights due to his much-improved bounce and motor. He can attack off the dribble or will recognize the mismatch and post up. One of the more versatile players in So-Cal.
Tory San Antonio (Rancho Verde) Club Team: West Coast Elite
2019, SG, 6-foot-4, 175 pounds
Joel’s Take: San Antonio started to gain steam in the eyes of recruiters during the regular season. Slowly he has improved his ball handling and shooting. He plays hard at both ends of the floor and projects well as a solid two-way player at the Division 1 level.
Tyson Jackson (Creekside, GA) Club Team: Atlanta X-Press
2019, PF, 6-foot-9, 225 pounds
Joel’s Take: Jackson fits that prototypical “old-school” 4-man. He is a blue-collar interior player that uses his instincts, solid length, and good hands, to corral rebounds in and out of his area. His offense is a bit limited, but he can convert over his left shoulder in the post and he gets numerous tip-ins while carving out space in the paint.
