Jansen delivered what may have been the performance of the tournament in the Dutchmen’s quarterfinal loss to Dubuque Wahlert. The dynamic scoring guard scored a tournament-high 42 points on 14-24 shooting, while also going 11-16 from the line. He nearly carried MOC-FV to an upset first round win almost single handedly. Had the Dutchmen won their opener, he undoubtedly would’ve worked his way onto the first team.
Jackson Joens, Cedar Rapids Xavier (2018)
After a slow showing in the Saints’ first game against Spirit Lake, Joens was arguably Xavier’s best player in the semifinals and championship games. The sophomore wing is one of the best shooters in his class, and displayed that shooting ability by going 8-for-10 from behind the arc in the Saints final two games (9-for-13 for the tournament).
Damon Struve, South O’Brien (2016)
The leading scorer for the 1A champions, Struve led the Wolverines to the title with a 14.3 point, 8.3 rebound average over the course of their three-game week. The catalyst of their defense at the top of a tough 2-3 zone, he also picked up 2.3 steals a game and helped pace a defensive attack that allowed just 43.7 points a game.
David Wedewer, Dubuque Wahlert (2016)
The Golden Eagles point guard put together his second very good state tournament in a row, averaging 14.7 points a game en route to a second place finish. The Sioux Falls commit shot 40% from behind the arc and went 16-for-18 from the free throw line during the week, and dished out 15 assists to just five turnovers.
Ryan Van Wyk, Pella (2017)
The leading scorer throughout the tournament for the third place Dutch, Van Wyk put together a very solid week, averaging 19 points and seven rebounds. His week was highlighted in their close loss to Xavier in the semifinals, where he scored 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.
