UA Challenge: Minnesota players Sizzle
Grassroots Sizzle went to Atlanta and played four close, entertaining basketball games for a 2-3 record. The Sizzle would of liked another win or two, but several of their players will come home feeling better about themselves.
Good News for Goodnews
For some players the rewards of D1 college scholarship opportunity come quick and early. For others it comes seemingly at the last possible moment. Goodnews Kpegeol helped North St. Paul accomplish things in terms of success and respect since the 70s. At 6-foot-5 with skill, length, and agility he seemed like the right D1 prospect but for some reason the fit just wasn’t found. He left Howard Pulley last year after receiving few minutes and while he had some good moments for D1 Minnesota last summer it wasn’t enough.
All that time we at Prep Hoops still felt it was coming, or at least it should come soon. Now here in July of 2018 playing Grassroots Minnesota the opportunity has arrive for Kpeogel. Georgia State, Iona, and SIU-Edwardsville have offered Goodnews scholarships after a standout weekend in Atlanta. Akron, UAB, and Pac 12 Colorado have made calls.
The baseline video mob was out in full force this weekend seeing the Sizzle crew and when you do you search your results will show Kpegeol using dribble separation into his pull-up makes as well as attack finishes using length to score over the top. Goodnews scored 13.4 points per game over the weekend hitting a pair of triples a game and missing one foul shot all weekend.
Dain Adds More Offers
The incredible footwork combined with soft hands, full repertoire of post moves, and the power down low has led to more scholarship opportunity for Dain Dainja. Clemson offered as did Patrick Ewing of Georgetown, a guy that knows a little something about post play.
The list of schools watching Dain was endless: Minnesota, Georgetown, Clemson, Texas A&M, Marquette, Northwestern, Kansas State, West Virginia, Illinois, Baylor, Iowa State, Pitt, Colorado, Georgia Tech, UCLA, and many others. Too many to record without a reporter missing half of the game.
Dainja scored 14 points a game in Atlanta with six rebounds and two assists a contest.
Terry Lockett HM in Hoops Too?
If you own a Twitter profile you’ve seen Jalen Suggs rack up basketball and football offers as a Minnehaha Academy superstar but you could see the same happen for Terry Lockett as well. Lockett has been the 2020 PG that’s handled the ball for two state championship teams while also earning football offers from Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska. Lockett played so well in Atlanta that Minnesota, Marquette, Xavier, Northwestern, and Baylor are among the schools that checked on Terry after the games.
Terry sometimes had Jalen on his wing with him, other teams no. Lockett perfectly balanced his distribution with a scoring attack when his team needed the boost. Lockett scored ten points a game with five assists a contest making over 50 percent of his field goal attempts.
More
Jalen Suggs had Roy Williams of North Carolina, Sean Miller of Arizona, Bill Self of Kansas, Patrick Ewing of Georgetown, Scott Drew of Baylor and a long list of others watch him while in Atlanta. Suggs had a rough first half in game one followed by a good second half Wednesday night. He rested Thursday morning and the showed everyone he’s a national standout in the final two games combining for 40 points. Jalen averaged 16 points in the event overall.
