I like Orono to win as they have been more consistent where as Rocori, who I was really impressed with, has a couple losses to teams with stars but no depth (Monticello and Apollo). Orono is also at home. Derek Thompson versus Sam Sustacek would be fun to watch. Coby Stoe vs Jon Olson will be good too.
- WEM at Maple River. A couple top ten Class AA squads competing with Maple River’s home court edge and well taught defense giving them the nod as favorite. Will Keller against Zac Olson should be fun but Kallen Dorenkemper against Jeff Lewis may be more important.
- Mounds View at CDH. Should Mounds View be ranked? Should CDH? One of them will prove their case tonight while the other will open the door for others. Section seeding, conference placement, bragging rights, and really, a top ten spot in state on the line. Nate Albers battling Jordan Ammons will be great. Guard Zeke Thompson is also having a strong year for the Mustangs.
- Osseo at Armstrong. Very interested to see how Osseo fares against Armstrong as the Falcons will be their toughest test to date. Osseo has a load of guards and usually when you have a team of talented guards they grab the victory and that is how I’m learning. Jubie Alade against Demario Armstrong would be fun to see in terms of prospects competing.
- St Cloud Cathedral at Albany. Two teams that dropped games over holiday break that they want back so their hope is getting back on the winning track and avoiding any type of potential run of losses. Kyle Birr was outstanding in St. Cloud in the days following Christmas, now he and tough guy leader Danny Odenthal welcome some young Crusader talent. We will take the veterans by nine.
- Minneapolis Patrick Henry vs Jordan. In one of the more interesting games to be played this evening Lamar Wood and his agile quick bounce battles the increased skill and constant motor of Jimmy Volbrecht. Jordan is coming off a bad loss and needs this win but Henry is playing very well and the bet is they sneak out with a four point victory in a fun game.
- West Central at Browerville. West Central may be a bit deeper and better up front but Browerville has the game changer in Bryce Irsfeld. A match-up of two Class A top ten squads and watch forwards Isaiah Westby and Ben Anderson of West Central who are both 6-foot-3 and solid around the rim. Browerville wins and makes a statement.
- Northfield at Rochester JM. Dedoch Chan makes his long awaited debut (so many layers of ridiculous to what happened, too bad admins from other area schools had to make this harder than it would have been in most places) and Chan does it against Hunter Koepp, Luke Harris, and Northfield. Matt Hurt against Luke Harris, Hunter against Michael Hurt, Chan in there too, should be another fun night in the Big Nine.
- Chaska at BSM. Both teams have more losses than the other teams they are ranked with but both have better wins that most teams in the state. Chaska over Shakopee and Lakeville North, BSM over DeLaSalle. Sam Baker against Myles Hanson is must see stuff.
- Waconia at Hopkins. The number one team in the state against a one-loss Hopkins squad. Waconia will most likely fall by double digits but the interesting piece will be, how do they compete? Waconia will show how much toughness they have this evening when they face the Royals. This game will have shooters everywhere.
- DeLaSalle at EP. Remember when this was game of the year type excitement stuff? If De wins, EP is under .500 for the season. If EP gets back on track, De is 5-4. Both teams have losses that nobody expected and need a win tonight. Samm Jones and Brady Rudrud are best of friends but one is going him tonight very sad. Goanar Mar and Nick Geolat is a fun match-up, as would be Owen Chose and Gabe Kalscheur.
- Totino Grace at Maple Grove. Rob Ware has his new Eagles 8-2. In those team games T-G lost to the two you would think they would, they beat who you would expect them to, and in all the 50-50 games the Eagles came out on top. Now they play the Crimson, the toughest test yet. Crimson by 21.
- Norwood Young-America at SW Christian. Let’s call this our hidden gem. The top small school scorer in the state right now Jack Jenson (just under 30 a game) pairs with Trey Sandness against an NYA team led by hungry guards Carter Clemenson and Kellen Erpenbach. The NYA kids want to make a statement and this is their chance.
- Fridley at St. Croix Lutheran. Fridley has hit a losing streak, the Crusaders are number one in Class AA. Makes perfect sense that the Crusaders roll, right? Likely. But good chance for Tessy Pal to show what he can do against Trenton Krueger and Ade Lamu.
- Mankato East at Austin. East was a start of the year top ten, but fell. Austin is better than expected, and has also had some amazing finishes to get them to a very respectable 8-3. The youth has to deal with Krisean Coffee this evening, will they need another miracle? I feel like this is a game that East may take charge.
