VWBA Elite Pushes to Semi-Finals of Chicago Finale

With a row of college coaches filling both baselines, VWBA Elite 17u has taken to Chicago and made the final four. With wins over Cascade Kings, Frontline, and Lone Star Elite by a combined 69 points, VWBA Elite battled to a semi-final game with the Dallas Mustangs on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs won the guard battle getting double figure point production from three guys resulting in a 58-42 win ending the VWBA run, but it was still an impressive weekend for the following prospects.    Caleb was one of the most athletic and explosive players on the floor. The semi-final was a tough scoring day for the football and basketball prospect but Caleb's defense was really clear to see. His on ball defense stepping over screens or fighting past, beating players to spots, and simply sprinting and stopping an attack, it was high level. On a rough scoring game that didn't stop Campbell from chasing down loose ball and fighting to passing lanes. Had an athletic, slashing finish that impressed.     Another athletic player, Miller also battled over ball screens and Taius had the length to leverage screens to get to his lateral movement throughout the game. A really hard working defender that then pushed the other way as the lead guard. Miller does a really good job controlling the ball, getting the initial read to the right spots, and getting to the lane leveraging to the corner pretty much whenever he needs to. Had a couple late scores staying with the play for one, and attacking past multiple defenders for another. Rebounded well too.     Dailan did a fantastic job in all three games we looked in on when it comes to handling the ball and getting the offense started with a tight handle and using his strength to hold position. Took contact on the attack and finished this week, used the spin to finish, and loved his simple head/shoulder fake to mess with the defender on the close-out and attack the rim. He would get defenders on his hip and regardless of how physical they wanted to bump Holman he was still in control going to the rim. Tough final game scoring wise but a good July so far overall.     The four star Iowa commit moves as well off a ball screen as just about any player his size I have seen at this age. Keller was facing an excellent group of Dallas Mustangs guards and he switched off screens time and time again moving laterally with arms extended and the little guards had no choice but to move the ball to the next man. Between his on ball work and then his help defense getting length and bothering just about every attack, I love the defensive potential that Keller has.   Daugherty finished the semi-final with five of seven field goal attempts and all of those finishes were right in the paint. He had one putback miss and one three point miss. Was two of four at the foul line scoring 12 points. Also grabbed nine rebounds.     Teke was everything he was promoted to be. The only thing he had an issue with was second half foul trouble that forced him to the bench. That foul trouble stooped a great run making six of his first seven shots that included a dunk off the opening tap, two more dunks in the paint, three jumpers from mid-range and then two threes. Deng rebounded well at eight boards in about 24 minutes of game time, and his length and agility was a total menace to the Mustangs. Dallas made their run when Deng had to sit.   Both baselines were full of schools and I would expect a number of high major offers to come in early next week when the colleges get home from their trips. One of the fastest rising players in the nation.
