Great Lakes Region Finals: 28' And 29' Stock Rising Combo Guards

The Prep Hoops Circuit was back in the Chicagoland area this past weekend. Teams from near and far gathered for one of the best events in travel basketball at the exclusive Great Lakes Region Finals. Over 200 teams were in attendance to compete. I had the opportunity to take games in from the 17U, 16U, and 15U divisions at Wintrust Sports Complex in Bedford Park. The games did not disappoint as teams competed to be the last ones standing in their respective brackets. In this article we will run down some of the combo guards in the classes of 2028 And 2029 who built stock while having good weekends for their teams. Let's dive in!    Watched Rondon compete in team's first game on weekend in early Saturday 8AM game. Versatile lefty wing that filled up the stat sheet in multiple ways. Knocked down shots from all 3 levels and provided extra energy throughout. Tough to contain in front of with hard nosed mentality and gritty play. Utilizes effective footwork on interior with mis matches. Provided plenty of back court pressure defensively and pushed tempo off boards. Created a lot of efficient action and helped team to a quarter final showing through weekend.     Combo guard from MBC that operated a smooth offensive game. Caught during team's matchup on Saturday night and he connected on a pull up jumper and a couple spot up threes with one being off of SLOB action. Possesses a crisp handle and is able to create space and attack. Ran the floor efficiently in an up tempo paced game filling the wing or bringing it down to help facilitate. Overall had solid rhythm and feel.     Saw Carroll compete for the first time during Sunday morning game. An active two way guard that impacts from inside and out. Came away with a couple offensive boards from the guard location. As a passer he made several strong reads including to the roll man off a ball screen, post feeds, and a couple smooth dump offs underneath. Consistently pushed pace off d boards to stay aggressive. Brings toughness and selfless playmaking ability. Helped lead team to a first-place weekend finish out of 70+ teams in 15U division.     Another high motor guard for KY Rise that had a good showing in early morning Saturday game. Tough mind that competes on both sides. Spaces the floor effectively from 3 ball land while also having a smooth mid range pull-up off the bounce. Had a cool euro-finish in traffic with a kiss off the glass. Another complimentary play maker that can get it done in multiple phases with speed, agility, and willingness to compete     Active combo guard that makes presence known on both ends. Watched in mid morning Sunday game of 15U quarterfinals and he generated multiple turnovers with pick pocket strips which helped create transition opportunities. Has a knack to score the rock. Tallied him for three spot up treys beyond the arc. Not afraid to get downhill and draw fouls at the rim. Also displayed good vision with strong drive and kick reads to help setup teammates. Projects as a valuable all around contributor that affects the game in a variety of avenues.     Well equipped to fit into a 1 or 2 spot at the next level. Has speed and quickness with complimentary bounce in the athleticism boxes. Utilizes bounce to stay active on the glass. Handles it well in multiple phases while making proper reads in up tempo scenarios. Made some really clean passes in semi-final matchup. Continued to contest and challenge on and off the ball defensively. Helped team secure 16U championship in big way. Will continue to turn heads as summer progresses.     Saw Kitley play last weekend and the combo guard from OPRF continues to provide a bright spot to compete. Consistently attacked to the rim in transition and produced at 3 levels. Hit a spot up mid range jay from the elbow, a catch and shoot three, and got to the cup for efficient finishes. Utilizes wing span and length to advantage in the paint. Made a cool reverse layup off dribble drive action and finished an and1 as well. Works hard and will see game continue to elevate.
