The Prep Hoops Great Lakes Region Finals took place this past weekend in the Chicagoland Area. An always competitive event and this year was no different. Around 70 teams were in each division for the 15U, 16U, and 17U brackets. Plenty of great games took place. I spent my time in Bedford Park at the Wintrust Sports Complex watching over 20 games from Friday to Sunday. In this article we will take a look at a handful of Small Forwards in the classes of 2027, 2028, and 2029 who continued to build some stock over the weekend for their respective teams. Let's dive in!

Spychala's long wingspan and frame help him have an advantage through multiple facets at the small forward spot. Some may say his height presents him to the power forward location immediately but I believe he would fit into a 3 or 4 as a swingman or prototypical wing at the next level with the type of productivity he provides. Watched team play twice this weekend and he has shot making ability from 3 and in mid range game. Displays scoring touch around rim with long reach and will continue to impact and grow in rebounding department as well. Tangible assets are here for stock to continue to rise through the summer and into scholastic season. Helped team to a spot in the championship game.

McGinnis slides into a small forward spot as an athletic wing who impacts in transition and above the rim. Had multiple dunks on breakaways and shows he can play bigger than his size presents. Adds defensive value with verticality and active hands to help create turnovers. Attacks downhill aggressively. An overall open floor threat that can help swing momentum at various times.

Caught in team's early morning game on Sunday and was a workhorse along with his whole squad. The amount of plays the team makes as a unit just out of pure competitiveness was mind blowing at times and Bekius plays an integral part in that orchestration. Impacts the game with high and tough activity level. Definition of a two-way guy. Scored it in a variety of ways including back door cuts, transition layups, spot up threes, and a tough spin move finish off the glass. Had multiple blocks which turned into transition opportunities. Overall will outhustle opponent with humbleness, discipline, and layers of effort to outwork and make winning plays.

An athletic slasher that applied pressure to the defense by attacking downhill at the wing position. During team's last game of weekend he knocked down a catch and shoot 3 and constantly found his way into the paint area for finishes. Used strong drives and off ball movements to generate efficient offense. Defensively made an impressive chase down block off the back board to add momentum. Plays with confidence while making correct reads throughout. Helped secure team to a 3-1 finish on the weekend front.

Small forward with solid length to fit in a swing man or wing setting for team. Finished effectively on cuts off the ball and interior catches including a pump fake and bucket and a smart cut to open area off BLOB action. Showed rebounding ability on both sides including a couple timely offensive rebounds and put backs. Has poised awareness and feel on the block with spray outs to assists.
