Yeah, we’ve seen this name already in our Michigan State Tournament 15u coverage, but when you deserve ink you deserve ink. Bekius had an impressive height, strength and freedom of movement combination. Over the weekend he attacked on the glass, went at the rim off the bounce and with scored with his jumper. Bekius could be on the verge of a big breakout high school season.

Bekius was a gamechanger for the 15u champion. He was a tall shooter that buried triples off the catch and shoot from the corner and from the top. Bekius also showed that he could shoot off the bounce when I saw him pull up and bury a mid range jumper. Bekius was able to get to the rim and was draw fouls. His most impressive play may have been when he changed course in traffic, went left to right, and finished at the bucket. Bekius was easily one of the best 15u’s in the gym.

Caught in team’s early morning game on Sunday and was a workhorse along with his whole squad. The amount of plays the team makes as a unit just out of pure competitiveness was mind blowing at times and Bekius plays an integral part in that orchestration. Impacts the game with high and tough activity level. Definition of a two-way guy. Scored it in a variety of ways including back door cuts, transition layups, spot up threes, and a tough spin move finish off the glass. Had multiple blocks which turned into transition opportunities. Overall will outhustle opponent with humbleness, discipline, and layers of effort to outwork and make winning plays.

Bekius has caught some eyes already this spring. He could be an impact varsity player this year. Bekius moves well on offense, both with and without the ball. He has a comfortable jumper that he can hit from mid range and beyond the arc.

Evan Bekius loves to move off of the ball while cutting to the bucket. I can’t name the amount of times that I saw Bekius go back door this weekend for a simple finish over the defense. Their team ran sets for it and there were times when the play broke down and he just naturally cut to the open space on the floor, which stood out. Defensively, this is someone with good size and length at 6’4. Their team runs a 1-3-1 defense or at least they did at this event and Bekius stood out as someone flying all over the court on that side of the ball. He never settled on a play and was someone that always kept things moving, which you have to love from an outside POV.

Bekius brought both defense and hustle to the table in Grand Rapids. He WANTED to defend and he played really hard on the defensive end. There was no possession off. Bekius showed that he could protect the rim and body his man.

. I’m excited to see his game live. Through the grapevine, I hear that he has solid positional size, strength and ball skills. Rumor has it that he can get off the ground too.
