Luke is a player I am high on as a MIAC/quality D3 recruit because of his strength, smarts and face up play. In the first half against AHA, Luke knocked out two threes but also scored inside on the post, and inside moving the ball for three paint buckets. Also does a really good job of passing the ball out of the post both on the low block and in the foul line area. A quality walled up defender as well that contested shots and turned to board well. His biggest sequence was blocking DePoint at the rim, outletting the ball, running the floor and scoring a putback to put Edina up double digits. Type of player that will likely get Edina 15 and eight this year and be all league.

Luke is one of the best passing bigs in the state, and it looks like Edina is going to take advantage of that vision this season. Against Holy Angels they were looking to get him the ball on the block and play off him from there. If a double team came Luke would quickly locate an open man, but leave him isolated on the block and he has the tools to score with his back to the basket. Luke is a strong presence on the glass and is great at locating outlet passes that quickly get his team out in transition.

Luke wrapped up his summer with Minnesota Select with a strong showing in Indiana. At 6’6 he has a long wingspan, the strength to hold off defenders, and the touch to finish over the top with either hand. Any time he caught on the block or in the lane, Luke was quickly getting into that baby hook shot that he barely misses. If a double team didn’t come fast, two points were likely going on the board. He’s perhaps at his best as a passer though, as he always has his eyes scanning the floor from the block, and is able to locate a cutter or a teammate popping out into space beyond the arc.

I only saw one of his games, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Luke led the entire event in assists. At 6’6 he has impressive vision, and is skilled enough to distribute out of the block, from the wing, or in transition. Luke was pulling in rebounds in bulk, and was then skilled enough to put the ball on the floor and run the break on his own. On one occasion he took in a defensive rebound, picked his head up, and launched a full-court pass to a teammate sprinting the floor for a lay-up. His vision and unselfishness opened up so many open looks for his teammates throughout the game. Luke was likely in triple-double territory in a win over Big3 Basketball.
