Landry-Walker 68, Edna Karr 35
Crescent City
Byron Joshua — 2020 5’10” PG
Joshua continues to stand out as one of the league’s top two or three players through two sessions. His quickness, speed, ball handling and shooting were on full display once again and he powered the Pioneers to two wins in back-to-back games against Landry-Walker and Karr. Joshua got to the rim at will in both games and had a stretch against Landry-Walker that included three straight and-ones in the paint.
Tray Wilburn — 2020 6’4” SG/SF
Wilburn is already a very good shooter from outside and he did a better job of attacking off of pump fakes when defenders closed out hard to contest. He’ll take on a much larger role for Crescent City this year with the departures of senior guards Terrence Smith, Devonta Harris and Cory Johnson.
Aiden Dailet — 2019 5’11” G
Dailet is another good shooter that stretches the floor for Crescent City giving Joshua even more space to work with and wreak havoc in the lane. Dailet’s ball handling has improved a bit from last season and creating a few more opportunities off the dribble could make him even more of a threat for the Pios.
Jordin Farrell — 2020 5’11” G
Farrell is a new addition to Crescent City’s rotation and his skillset should make him a valuable piece. He’s a strong enough ball handler to give Joshua a bit of a break off the ball and he prefers to create off the bounce and put pressure on defenses in the paint. He has a good frame going into his junior season and does a solid job of finishing in the lane.
Caleb White — 2020 6’8” F
White has a lot of potential as a big man and flashed a few times on Tuesday. He did a good job protecting the rim blocking a handful of shots and showed some strength and toughness battling for boards against an active group of big men throughout the day. Offensively, White could be a bit more consistent finishing in the paint but he’s athletic enough to finish strong above the rim when he gets a solid platform to jump from.
Glenn Rhone — 2020 6’5” F
Rhone is the ultimate role player and he brought his usual mix of intensity, rebounding, defense and hustle. He doesn’t demand the ball offensively but can contribute with his offensive rebounding and understands how to keep the ball moving.
Madison Prep
Jason Perry — 2020 6’4” G
Much like last week, Perry had trouble getting his 3-point shot to fall but he was still effective using his size and athleticism to finish in the paint. He also had a huge block on one of the state’s top prospects in Gregory Hammond, which provided a glimpse into what Perry can bring on the defensive end of the floor.
Jordan Johnson — 2020 6’6” F
Johnson had another strong day for Madison Prep after a good performance in Session I and showed off even more of his versatility this past Tuesday. He made a couple of plays off the dribble including a smooth reverse layup off a baseline drive, had another big dunk in transition and blocked a handful of shots throughout the day. Johnson was also one of the top competitors of the day putting forth consistent effort on both offense and defense.
Jahein Spencer — 2019 6’4” G
Spencer had a quiet day as he allowed some of the younger players to find their rhythm and get comfortable in the offense. It’s well-known what he’s capable of with offers on the table from multiple Division I programs including Georgetown and he still contributed bullying his way to the rim for some easy baskets.
Marcus Guss — 2019 5’10” G/Dez Perkins — 2021 5’9” G
Both Guss and Perkins connected on their fair share of 3-pointers and should do the same for Madison Prep this coming season. Guss has been doing so for a couple seasons now and Perkins could get some playing time this year as a newcomer with the team.
Sophie B. Wright
Charlie Russell Jr. — 2019 6’7” SG/SF
Russell Jr. was probably the top performer on Tuesday scoring in style and at a high rate. He’s a very good shooter who has to be respected from deep but has the athleticism, size, strength and body control to go by defenders and finish through contact. Russell Jr. had a couple of powerful two-handed dunks off of drives to the rim and he loves to challenge shots defensively and come up with big blocks.
Gregory Hammond — 2019 6’5” SG
Hammond had a relatively quiet outing against Madison Prep considering what he’s capable of. He wasn’t as aggressive as expected with Damiree Burns sidelined with a minor ankle injury but did showcase his smooth ball handling and ability to get to the rim on a few drives to the basket for impressive buckets. Hammond is one of the top prospects in the state with double digit offers including Ole Miss, UNO and Louisiana Tech among others.
