Best Multi-Sport Athletes Class of 2018: Pt. 2
If you were to look around the city of Cincinnati, you would see the myth of kids focusing solely on one sport being broken. Multiple student-athletes in the area excelled not just on the hardwood, and their feats should be noticed. Here is a list of the best multisport athletes in the Cincy area, starting with the Class of 2018. The amount of talent in this class is just insane, so this class will get a two-part article. Here is part two.
Tanner Knue/Mason- The Comet senior was the Defensive Player of the Year in the GMC on the hardwood last winter, tying for the conference lead in steals per game at 2.2. He also finished 9th in the conference in scoring at 13.4ppg. On the gridiron Knue was named was a 2nd team all-conference performer as receiver, finishing with 309 yards receiving. Tanner will continue his career on the gridiron as a walk-on with Eastern Michigan.
DaShawn Lawrence/Taft- One of the top football players in Cincinnati, Lawrence lead the CMAC in receiving yards with 1047 and finished 2nd in interceptions with 5. A 1st team all-conference performer, Lawrence will suit up for the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff this fall. No slouch on the hardwood as well, Lawrence was one of the top playmakers in the city. He finished tied for 2nd in the CMAC averaging 6.1 assist per game and was an honorable mention all-conference performer.
Colin Shaw/Indian Hill- Shaw like the first two young men mentioned in this article excelled as a receiver in his high school career. He led the CHL in receiving yards with 865 and receiving TD’s with 11. He also had two interceptions as a defensive back. During the winter Colin was a high-scoring guard/wing for the Braves scoring over 1,000 points in his career. Shaw will continue his basketball career at D-III Swarthmore College (PA).
AJ Smith/Hughes- In his one year on the football field AJ showed some major talent. As a WR/KR/DB, Smith scored a total of five touchdowns and finished 5th in the conference in receiving yards with 330. But he is known best for basketball exploits, apart of one of the best starting fives in Southwest Ohio. A double-figure per game scorer for three straight seasons, AJ will suit up for Columbus State this winter.
Lorenzo Sparks/North College Hill- Sparks put numbers that are hard to argue with on the hardwood and gridiron this year for the Trojans. As a WR/DB, Lorenzo lead the conference is receiving yards (1,161) and interceptions (13). On the court he was named Athlete of the Year after leading NCH 22-3 record and the MVC Scarlet crown. Lorenzo lead the conference in scoring his junior and senior year averaging over 20ppg both seasons.
