Beachwood 6ā5ā guard Jayson Woodrich (2019) has a statewide reputation as a knock-down shooter. Just last weekend at the Run nā Slam with All Ohio Black, Woodrich was lighting it up from deep and catching the attention of college coaches.
At the moment, Woodrichās recruitment has come from the Division I and Division II level, as Ohio University, Northern Iowa, and Malone have reached out.
Woodrich told us that Malone is most actively recruiting him. Meanwhile, Ohio sent a coach to one of his high school open gyms this past year.
However, the 2.2 GPA student-athlete (yet to take the ACT) tells Prep Hoops that heās actually leaning towards prep school after Beachwood. Although he didnāt name specific prep school options, Woodrich has started doing his homework on possible fits.
Whether itās D-I, D-II, or prep school basketball, Woodrich is looking for two things in his next step: a coach who can make him stronger on and off the court and a program that needs a shooter.
Woodrich plays a more versatile role with Beachwood, given their lack of collective height. Specifically, heās asked to score via the jumper and the slash. He also shows off his defensive versatility with the Bisons, having to defend forwards.
Yet in the grassroots season, Woodrich plays his preferred role as a 2 or 3 who stretches the floor and has a size advantage on a a lot of days. He excels as a 3-point shooter and playmaker for others via the pass. Itās more of a natural role for him and almost certainly what his college coaching staff will ask him to do.
Going into his senior year at Beachwood, Woodrich hopes to improve his ball-handling and explosiveness as an athlete. Quickness and verticality are major focuses of his at the moment.
When the time comes to take the floor as a senior, Woodrich and the gang always have State Championship expectations at Beachwood. Heās confident in their young talent and knows heāll need to score a ton, in order to achieve their goals.
