Recruiting Report: Dawson Garcia (2020)
Top 100 nationally rated sophomore Dawson Garcia has earned four high major offers this month, led his team to an undefeated Adidas weekend, and visited a school. Getting it all in!
After a 22 point per game season with Prior Lake the 6-foot-10 forward is now coming off an undefeated weekend with D1 Minnesota 16s in Dallas.
“The spring has been going really well,” Dawson said. “We are connecting as a team and sharing the ball well. I am just working on making sure I can do more than shoot. I am trying to prove I am a good passer and rebounder as well.”
Several schools are calling on Garcia but who is showing the most interest? “Texas, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Xavier, and Minnesota have all been by to see me (this spring).” Garcia said.
Texas was the first school by, and the first school to offer Dawson.
“It was a dream come true to get that offer. I have always wanted to play at the highest level, and once he told me I had the offer I was amazed. You can’t really prepare yourself for it, because it was a dream come true.”
Dawson was recently at Xavier and they joined the Longhorns, Butler, and Baylor in offering Dawson during the visit.
It was a great trip,” Dawson said. “I love the school and they are moving in a great direction. I feel like they can be a top 10 team in the nation for the next decade if they keep getting the right guys. Also they have a great coaching staff. Coach Ben Johnson was recruiting me at Minnesota, and I liked him and I like Coach (Travis) Steele as well.”
Minnesota is also showing interest and should be offering soon.
“I am getting to know Coach Pitino better now. He seems like a good coach and a great guy, and I look forward to talking with him more in the future.”
