Q&A: Andrel Anthony (2021)
Andrel Anthony is on the verge of breaking out. He is a 6’2” combo guard for East Lansing and UTS Elite 15u. Anthony is an explosive guard who can shoot three with no limits on range. He’s a strong athlete so defenders can’t just step out on the triple. If they do, Anthony can take the ball to the basket. He is ready to show off his skills this spring and summer for UTS Elite 15u. We caught up with Anthony for a Q&A session.
Question: What do you think is the biggest strength of your game?
Andrel Anthony: I feel the biggest strength in my game is being a good decision maker that can shoot the ball and also drive to the basket well.
Question: How do you feel about you and your high school teams performance last season?
Andrel Anthony: I believe our past season went pretty well and we had a great late season run. Me and my team stepped it up and I’m proud of the team for that.
Question: What part of your game do you feel really developed over the high school season?
Andrel Anthony: My attacking the basket, and my defense, I’ve really decided to lock in and want to guard the best players so therefore I had to step up my defense.
Question: What are your basketball goals this spring and summer?
Andrel Anthony: To be the best player I can become, stay in the gym, and play good with my AAU team.
Question: Is there an event you are really looking forward to?
Andrel Anthony: The Phenom 150 Camp in San Diego during mid summer is going to be exciting and I’m preparing myself for it.
Question: Who is the best player you have ever matched up against?
Andrel Anthony: Probably my teammate Kobe Bufkin because he’s a very crafty player. He knows when to adjust his shot, pull up, and finishes very well around the basket.
Question: What do you like the most about AAU/travel season?
Andrel Anthony: I LOVE the competition, the large crowds, the intensity, and how it’s so many good players in one area competing at High levels.
Question: What professional player do you think your game resembles?
Andrel Anthony: I believe my game resembles close to Kevin Durant, or Brandon Ingram, I can shoot the ball, and I can also drive well. I need to work on my ball handing so I can get more comfortable taking defenders more using my dribbling combo moves.
Question: Is there a teammate on your AAU/travel team that you are especially looking forward to playing with?
Andrel Anthony: I’m looking forward to playing with TJ Barnes and Kobe Bufkin because we all play well together. We are also close friends so it helps with our chemistry.
Question: What do you think will be the key to your teams success this spring and summer?
Andrel Anthony: The key to my success is to stay in the gym as much as I can, get a better diet so I can gain some more pounds, and to keep working with my Coach Marcus Lancaster because he gets me right.
