Prospect Spotlight: Tyrus Crawford (2019)
Athletes that are willing to put in the work needed to be great are extremely valuable at all levels of play. Tyrus Crawford is that type of basketball player. The 6’7” small forward/power forward plays for Landry Walker High School and for WAWG Elite. Crawford is one of the rising prospects in Louisiana’s class of 2019. He averaged 10.2 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.5 apg.
Crawford is a versatile athlete. He can play anywhere on the floor but seems most comfortable in the post. Offensively, Crawford is always a threat to score on a put back. He has the ability to drive to the basket or pull up and a hit a mid range jumper. Crawford is an excellent defender. He uses his long wing span to keep his opponent bottled up and to block shots.
Tyrus Crawford is always working to improve. This spring and summer he hopes that working on his three pointer, leadership, and ball handling will lead to team success. Crawford wants “to be remembered as the hardest working player to ever step foot on the court and in the classroom,”. He can be found regularly in the gym working out to enhance his strength and durability.
Crawford has a lot to bring to the table for a college program. His athleticism, versatility, and work ethic will provide a coach and team with a unique player. Wherever he ends up, Crawford will bring his tireless work ethic and endless effort with him. Quite simply, he has a desire for greatness.
Tyrus Crawford’s recruitment is just beginning. It will be interesting to see where it goes from here, especially after a stellar performance at The Series ITL. “My grandmother is my motivation. She died in 2008 when I was headed into middle school and I’ve been playing basketball ever since because she always told me ‘do what u love to your fullest potential’,” said Crawford. With his skills and motivation, big things lie ahead for Crawford.
