Recruiting Report: Keith Williams (2018)
After almost four entire years of a quiet recruitment, the silence has finally been broken on Sandusky 6’2” combo guard Keith Williams (2018). Just a couple days ago, the all-around playmaker was offered his first scholarship.
”Actually [Thursday], I went on a visit to Findlay and they just offered me a full scholarship,” Williams told Prep Hoops.
However, Findlay isn’t the only D-II program circling Williams at the moment.
”Charleston [visit] is Monday and Tuesday. I’m going to go Monday, then the visit Tuesday,” Williams said. “Then I play in the North versus South game Thursday … I got to fit in Tiffin and Ashland. I got to talk to them first about it. But they want me to get up there, both of them.”
Rumors are that Tiffin has also offered since we spoke to Williams yesterday, but we haven’t been able to confirm that report.
All four of these programs could benefit from knowing what Williams is looking for in program.
”I want a similar [coaching] staff of what I’m used to — someone that is going to stay on me,” Williams said.
Fresh off a visit to Findlay, Williams seemed pretty sure that they checked every box
”Findlay, their coaching staff is tremendous … The system, how they run everything, and the players they bring in, I mean it was great going up there. That’s basically what I’m looking for.”
You may be asking why you’ve never heard of Williams. It’s a mystery all of us are having a hard time wrapping our heads around, including Williams himself.
”I feel like I didn’t get as much AAU exposure as I should’ve growing up. I mean, these schools now, I feel like they seen me in my senior year for basketball and are just reaching out.” Williams added, “It was slow, but it’s going good now.”
The AAU exposure should be there now for Williams, who is spending another couple weeks with the Ohio Buckets before making a decision. He’s excited to play with them at the Kentucky JamFest next weekend. Shortly afterwards, expect a decision to be announced.
If you get a chance to check him out, expect to see a player capable of creating a shot in the lane at any time but prefers to pass.
”Personally, I think the thing I bring to the game is creating plays for others. Coming off ball screens and just reading the floor. I got good vision and ball-handling. I can shoot it,” Williams explained.
He so carries a 3.1 GPA with a score of 19 on the ACT to go with it.
As mentioned, it won’t be more than a couple weeks before a decision is made. Therefore, other D-IIs looking for a combo guard to fill out their 2018 class should move quickly on Williams.
