One of the best parts of the holiday tournaments is finding new prospects! There were a ton of them we caught during a nine day period I covered games from Jacobs, Elgin, Wheeling, Hinsdale Central, Jack Tosh, Collinsville, Pekin, Duster-Thomas, and Pontiac. Here are the 2027 New Names That Emerged!

[player_tooltip player_id='2829440' first='Ben' last='Newcomb'] (Lakes – 2027)

Newcomb had a breakout game against Boylan at the Hinkle Holiday Classic in the first round. The 6'3” 2027 prospect went for 27 points in the contest. At 6'3” he is a wing that has good size, strength, and skill. Crafty ball handler that got in the lane for wins converting with either hand at the cup. More than just a slasher he had his nose in on rebounds, passed it well when handling it having his head up to make a play, and is a solid shooter.

[player_tooltip player_id='2413791' first='Carter' last='Martin'] (Lakes – 2027)

Liked what we saw from this 5'10” combo guard that can really shoot it. Clean and easy release from beyond the arc went down consistently in the game we saw as he had four threes finishing with 20 points.

Jackson Roberts (Barrington – 2027)

Roberts put on a clinic in their win against Grant. He dropped 24 points in a game that his team needed every one of them. The 6'1” two guard opened our eyes as a slick ball handler that could get to the rack pretty much whenever he wanted converting an array of finishes. Tight handles and quickness off the bounce. Definitely a name to keep an eye on.

[player_tooltip player_id='2802061' first='Nick' last='Stowasser'] (Crystal Lake South – 2027)

Stowasser opened up their tournament at Jacobs with a big outing scoring 25 points. The 6'4” wing is a plus spot up shooter that knocked down four of them in the game. Also was a scrappy rebounder and solid defender. Looked like a nice small college prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='2125689' first='Tyler' last='Cibulka'] (Benet – 2027)

We got our first extended look at this junior in their first round blowout win at Hinkle. The 2027 wing is a quality spot up shooter that impacts defensively and gets on the glass for a guard.

[player_tooltip player_id='2127973' first='Austin' last='Carlsen'] (Wauconda – 2027)

At 6'6” this power forward can stretch with his shooting. Made a couple of threes, hit from the baseline, and overall just had a nose for the ball. Was always around the ball making plays. He had 18 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2125685' first='Tommy' last='Donahue'] (Deerfield – 2027)

Donahue is a 6'3” guard with quality size that showcased the ability to make decisions off live dribbles, get in the mid-range for pull ups, and mix it up on the glass. He had 7 points in their first round win over Streamwood.

[player_tooltip player_id='2125586' first='Ben' last='Gillmar'] (Wheaton North – 2027)

Gillmar is a 2027 6'5” power forward who proved to be crafty around the hoop, be able to deck it from the mid-post area, and was extremely active on the glass. Good positional defender as well.

Jamarri Watson (Morgan Park – 2027)

The 6'3” forward was a force with his energy and motor intimidating his opponent. He blocked shots, got steals, and was a pogo stick on the glass in their first round game. Might end up being more of a football prospect, but definitely someone to monitor.

[player_tooltip player_id='2402634' first='Xavier' last='Johnson'] (Westinghouse – 2027)

Intriguing prospect here as the 6'4” thick bodied small forward flashed some skill with turnaround fadeaways, mid-range jumpers, and threes while being able to handle it getting to his spots as he went for 11 points in the game we saw.

[player_tooltip player_id='2839900' first='Joseph' last='Lubbe'] (York – 2027)

What a performance by Lubbe as the junior was lights out in a victory for York in the second round on the consolation side going for 26 points. Shot it well from beyond the arc pouring in four of them. Also attacked the hoop with athleticism scoring on floaters and straight line takes.

Lucas Shelby (Mt. Vernon – 2027)

Long and rangy point guard that could continue to grow shot it pretty well from distance in their win against Belleville East nailing three from deep for 10 points.

Daniel Nelson (Mt. Vernon – 2027)

Nelson is a 6'4” broad shouldered combo forward that stepped up with Maurer out in the second half of the semis. He was active on the boards and efficient scoring for 9 points (4-8 FG) and 8 rebounds.

Kenny Wilson (Belleville East – 2027)

The 6'1” shooting guard is slick taking it to the cup with crisp handles in traffic. He rebounds well and has a solid looking shot.

Jayden McDonald (Homewood Flossmoor – 2027)

Marshall had a couple of breakout games at the Pontiac Holiday Tournament where he emerged as a legit second scorer for HF. The 6'1” lanky two guard poured in jumpers from two and three at a high level. Consistent range and elevation on his shot with pure mechanics.

[player_tooltip player_id='2829852' first='Nathan' last='Poku'] (York – 2027)

The Dukes point guard had a nice week at Jack Tosh. He is an athletic guard that showcased his passing instincts, shot making, and defense throughout the event.

Matthew Logue (New Trier – 2027)

Logue had a nice outing in the Pontiac semis as he scored an efficient 8 points. The four man goes about 6'5” with a solid touch around the hoop.
