There are still some super-sleepers out there for the 2018 senior recruiting class. One of them is guard Marquise Smith from St. Cloud Apollo.
Apollo improved by winning four more games during the regular season (from 7 to 11) and grabbing a huge opening round playoff win versus Alexandria. Marquise scored 30 in that game, and he boosted his scoring average from 13.5 PPG to 16.5 — leading the team again.
“The season went well, better than last year,” Marquise said. “We accomplished a lot of our goals we made. We beat Alexandria and worked hard at all times. My role helped a lot by being a team player and getting my teammates better.”
Marquise prides himself on his coachability.
“I became a better shooter and a better defender, and I just became a better player overall by working hard with my coach and just being coachable,” he said.
He isn’t picky about where he plays in college. Not many schools have looked at him, so he is happy for any kind of contact. Academically, he would like to eventually major in business law.
“I just want to go to a good college, play basketball and get my education, too,” he said. “I haven’t got any calls from college coaches, so I haven’t really decided.”
