Two of the best prospects in the state clashed on night one of the season as West Aurora traveled to Oswego to play in the first game of the Hoops for Healing Tournament. Oswego sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2125627' first='Ethan' last='Vahl'] and West Aurora junior [player_tooltip player_id='2125687' first='Travis' last='Brown'] are both ranked in the top 5 of their classes. They put on a show in a game that went down to the wire with Vahl's Oswego squad winning on their home floor 51-48. Here were the top prospects from the night!

It seemed like before the game hardly started Vahl picked up his second foul and missed almost the entire first quarter. He more than made up for it as Vahl went off in the last three quarters finishing with a game high 30 points. The high-major 2028 guard started off by getting in the mid-range where he used his skill to knock in feathery shots while having the knack to get fouled doing so. Smooth ball handler who got all the way to the rim for scores along with and-1s. Banged in an array of crisp three pointers including step backs showing excellent elevation and mechanics. Had a fantastic shot banking in a floater from 15 feet on the wing to close the third quarter. Displayed good passing feel and court visions along with getting a couple steals on the defensive end. Complete game for the big time sophomore!

The highly ranked 2028 big man didn't score, but still left his impact on the game. He had multiple massive blocked shots inside and contesting shooters on the perimeter. Like how he high-pointed rebounds and played with toughness like a true five on the boards. Showed some passing feel too hitting a cutting Vahl from the perimeter on a quick pass.

Borrowman is a 6'5” wing that can really shoot the basketball off the catch. That was evident in the game as he poured in a pair along with being tough on the glass for 10 points.

Brown is one of the fastest players with the ball in his hands end to end in the state. The junior is so fun to watch as he pushes off steals or the defensive glass weaving through defenders right past them for acrobatic layups or dunks. Did it quite a few times in this game. Converts so well around the cup. Makes sound decisions as a passer. Even got up to block a big man's shot on the other end. He had 19 points.

Greene caught our attention over the summer playing up and we liked what we saw in this one. The well built forward finished on junk points around the hoop, tip ins, and got a steal that he went coast to coast with for a bucket finishing with 6 points off the bench.

Matthew-Thomas jumped off the floor to us in this one. The guard plays taller than his height with his length and fluid athleticism. Long and lanky shooting guard that made it look effortless slashing to the cup on a regular basis. Won in both the half court and transition as he was in attack mode using his burst all night netting 16 points.
