Kansas Most Underrated (2019)
Kansas Most Underrated — 2019
Prep Hoops put the question to Twitter a few weeks ago — who are some of the state’s most underrated players?
Here we take a look at several of the players mentioned.
Underrated — 2019
Levi Braun, 6’4, G, 2019, Topeka Hayden
Capable of running the point, Braun has played off the ball this season alongside 2018 point guard Jett Canfield and has developed into a reliable perimeter shooter. He is also a crafty ballhandler who is capable of making plays off the bounce and will likely transition into the PG spot next year with the graduation of Canfield.
AJ Dickerson, 6’4, SG, 2019, Junction City
An athletic shooting guard with a big frame and a developing all-around offensive skill set, Dickerson is a capable shooter, a terrific shot creator and is capable of getting to the basket or knocking down outside shots. Dickerson has also become known for his ability to knock down clutch shots.
Jarrett Hensley, 6’7, F, 2019, Shawnee Mission North
Hensley has gone from a relative unknown prior to this season to a big riser in Kansas hoops. He has terrific bounce and athleticism, capable of blocking shots or throwing down slams, but is skilled enough to shoot 3s, get to the basket off the bounce and play on the wing. This spring and summer will be big for his development and recruitment.
Clarence King, 6’2, PG, 2019,
King was the Sophomore of the Year in the Sunflower League a year ago and was putting together a big offseason for KC Run GMC before suffering an injury. He returned in January and has slowly been regaining his form. He is a big, strong point guard capable of running a team or scoring from all over the court. Definitely a player to watch heading into the spring grassroots season.
Dyelan Reed, 6’4, G, 2019, Concordia
Reed is putting together a big season for Concordia, scoring better than 20 points per game. Also a football standout, Reed has a big, strong frame, handles the ball well, keeps his head up and has good court vision. He is a capable shooter and scorer and has put up big numbers this season.
Keyon Thomas, 5’11, PG, 2019, Bonner Springs
A big sleeper in Kansas’ hoops, Thomas is a lightning quick point guard who combines, smart, heady play with the ability to get to the basket at will, finish around the basket and can also knock down outside jumpers. He also has a good feel for passing the ball and is terrific at setting up teammates.
