Queen City’s Top Unsigned Seniors: Point Guards
There is plenty of talent in the class of 2018 in the Cincinnati area that is still looking for a home at the next level. And while a lot of those players are ranked as the best in the state, some are under the radar talents. Here is a list of the top unsigned seniors in the Cincinnati area. Today we start with the point guards.
Kameron Gibson, Walnut Hills High School (PHO #24)- It seems that some D-I’s are starting to notice what those in the area have known for a while, this kid can flat out play. Averaging over 18ppg on 56% shooting in local games, Kam can score from all three levels and can shoot as well off the dribble as he does in catch and shoot situations. According to January 24th Wcpo.com article by Mike Dyer, Gibson has interest from Temple, Winthrop, Furman and Miami University among others.
Giovanni Santiago, Hughes High School (PHO #33)- Gio picked up another D-II offer from Nova Southeastern University on February 5th per his Twitter, just another in what is becoming a pretty long list of offers. One of the better floor generals in the state, Santiago’s assist-to-turnover ratio is currently 2.28 to 1 and he has also recorded two triple-doubles on the season. Maryland Eastern Shore and Kentucky State are among the other offers Gio holds.
Damani McEntire, Deer Park High School (PH Indiana #60)- In his only season in the city McEntire has proven to be a stat sheet stuffer. This athletic guard sports averages of 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals per game. During his interview with PHO in January, Damani mentioned that he has an offer from the Navy along with interest from Pitt among other schools.
Tanner Knue, Mason High School (PHO #140)- High IQ point man who this year has shown that he can score the ball as well. Knue has seen his scoring average go from 9ppg for the 2016-17 season to 13.8 this season. But the biggest improvement in his game has been from three-point range where he is shooting 39% after just 24% last season. Tanner would be a great find for a program at the D-III level.
Ryan Reidy, Archbishop McNicholas (PHO #179)- This young man is one of the most underrated players in Cincinnati and the state of Ohio. Reidy can shoot regardless of if its off the dribble or a catch and shoot situation, and with range. He has a tight handle and is much quicker than given credit for and plays with a high IQ. Currently leading the GCL Co-Ed in scoring at 17.1ppg, Ryan would be a steal at the D-II/JUCO/NAIA or D-III level.
Demontez “Kane” Cooper, Woodward High School (PHO #180)- One of the better on-court leaders in the city, Cooper is all the way back from his ACL injury last December. Kane currently leads the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference in assist per game at 6.9 and is 4th in steals at 2.7 per game. He is one of those players who always seems to make the correct play.
Brandon Doss, Shroder High School- Quietly Doss is having an outstanding season for Coach Will Johnson and the Jaguars. Brandon is averaging 16.8 points per game with a shooting split of 53/45/74. But he excels on the defensive end as well where his 3 steals per game rank second in the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference. In an interview with PHO earlier this month Doss stated that he has interest at the D-II/NAIA/JUCO and D-III level as well as some prep school interest.
Jay Tiemeyer, West Clermont High School- This strong bodied guard went off for 35 Monday night the same day his PHO profile hit the site. Jay is very good at shooting off one and two dribbles but can get into the lane as well. Because of his scoring ability and crafty ball-handling, Jay can play with and without the ball. Tiemeyer has interest at the D-III level from Wilmington and Heidelberg but no offers.
