On Friday, September 26th, I attended the Brimmer and May open gym at the Wells Ave YMCA in Newton, MA. Brimmer is building a beautiful new facility that'll be ready by the start of the season.

Here are the best six performers I saw from the runs.

Payne is almost a lock to be Brimmer's leading scorer this season, and his development this year could potentially earn him some higher D1 looks than he's currently getting. The 6-foot-2 lead guard is ridiculously athletic and has some really special finishing chops at the rim; he can convert with both hands, off of both feet, and with lots of contact. He also makes good decisions in the lane and is supremely unselfish. His ability to take on more playmaking this season will probably be the deciding factor in the final stages of his recruitment.

Robinson was definitely the second most impressive prospect on Friday. He continues to get bigger, stronger, and more athletic every time I watch him, and the 6-foot-7 wing/forward is beginning to really understand how and when to use his physicality. He looks so much more comfortable taking and giving contact than I remember him. The three point shot and ball handling skills are still coming along, but the junior has some time to shore up those parts of his game. I would project him as a low end D1 player who has some potential to go higher if he can develop his guard/wing skills.

Fitzgibbon always impresses me with his feel for the game and skillset offensively. He never holds the ball for too long, he can shoot it from three, and he always knows what he's going to do with it once he gets it, which makes him an effective off ball spacer and closeout driver. When he has the ball, he does a solid job in the pick and roll and can get to the rim and finish quite effectively; he's a lot more athletic than you think and has really excellent touch off the backboard. The 6-foot-3 guard should probably be on the radar of scholarship coaches, but he needs to up his motor and effort level defensively.

I love the way Dawan-Abdullah controls the game on the offensive end. The 5-foot-10 floor general has great patience and discernment in the pick and roll and is a really excellent passer; he has good vision and the ability to make on time, on target spray outs at a variety of angles and with both hands. He needs to improve his confidence and shooting stroke from the perimeter, but he should be able to eventually find a college fit because of how solid he is on both ends. The sophomore has a lot of time to get more consistent, and he has the IQ and skill set already. Perhaps some more size will come too.

Fudge is a solid little things guy who has great athleticism and three point shooting ability. The 6-foot-4 wing is probably one of the more talented spot up shooters on the squad and has perfect rotation on the basketball when he shoots it. When he gets into the lane, he elevates really well and can finish with both hands above the rim. If he can improve his ball handling and feel for cutting off the ball, he could probably get some solid D3 looks. Right now as it stands, I'm sure he can find a fit somewhere at that level.

Legentus is a really talented athlete and scorer who can put the ball in the hoop from all three levels and get to the rim fairly consistently. The 6-foot guard has a good handle, a solid shot, and great explosiveness. If he can improve his facilitation and lean into being more unselfish, he can probably get some higher level scholarship looks than he's currently getting. He'll have a chance to do so as part of the starting backcourt for Brimmer this season. I would guess he'll go somewhere D2 as things currently stand.
