I love the way Dawan-Abdullah controls the game on the offensive end. The 5-foot-10 floor general has great patience and discernment in the pick and roll and is a really excellent passer; he has good vision and the ability to make on time, on target spray outs at a variety of angles and with both hands. He needs to improve his confidence and shooting stroke from the perimeter, but he should be able to eventually find a college fit because of how solid he is on both ends. The sophomore has a lot of time to get more consistent, and he has the IQ and skill set already. Perhaps some more size will come too.

I truly cannot believe Dawan-Abdullah is a freshman in high school. His fundamentals, feel for the game, and basketball IQ are so far beyond his years; he’s always controlled and on-balance with the ball in his hands, and he never tries to do too much offensively. I love the way he operates in the pick and roll, changing speeds to throw off the defense and getting defenders on his back to give himself extra decision-making time. I’ll be curious to see whether Dawan-Abdullah continues to grow, but even if he doesn’t, his skill set should put him on the radar of scholarship coaches. He could play D3 basketball RIGHT NOW, and he’s a freshman. Wow.

Dawan-Abdullah is only a freshman but already has true point guard skills that are well beyond his years. He’s got the ball on a string and can pass/run an offense far better than most freshmen. He’s especially effective in transition, where he uses excellent strength, body control and patience to attack the nail and then make plays for himself or his teammates. He even had some attacks in transition, against high school upperclassmen, where he finished above the rim with contact. All levels of college basketball are on the table for Dawan-Abdulla.
