Westover vs Overhills Recap
With two of the top teams in the area doing battle, this game had quite of bit of hype to it and rightfully so. However Westover got off to a hot start and didn’t look back at all getting the win over Overhills HS by a wide margin.
Westover HS Senior Forward Jalin Thorne: Jalin had one of his best games of the season during this matchup, he was absolutely dominant inside and attacked the rim at a high rate. With a total of 17 points on the night and a high field goal percentage, the staff at Westover has to be excited about the potential for him to play this way for the rest of the year.
Westover HS Senior Forward Edmund Scott: At 6’6 with a soft touch and good shooting form, Edmund could be a player that could be a nice pickup for a program looking for a project player at the JC or NAIA level. Although he scored 12 points, he made a nice impact on the defensive end as well, playing the top of the zone and using his length to cause problems for the offense.
Overhills HS Junior Guard Zavian McLean: Zavian came into to this game averaging over 20 points per game and was on track to keep that average as he scored 10 points in the first half. He is a freakish athlete and it showed at the end of the 1st half when he came up with a monster chase down block at the end of the 2nd quarter.
Westover HS Junior Guard Camamri Williams: With two of the team’s guards sitting out this game, Camari saw his role increase and he played well. Early on in the game, he was successful at getting the ball inside to the post players early and often as well as playing solid defensively.
Overhills HS Freshman Guard Cinque Lemon: As the youngest player on the court, we know that he wouldn’t necessarily dominate but he showed flashes of just how good he can be. He can score the ball at multiple level and once his frame fills out over the next year or two, he can turn into a very nice player and prospect.
Overhills HS Junior Guard Xavier Edwards: This is the second time that we got the chance to see him play and he has one of the most unorthodox but productive games that you will see. He converts all types of floaters, leaners and other difficult shots, the next step in his game is to perfect his midrange game.
Overhills HS Junior Forward Jeremyah McWilliams: He has the height and length that will make you intrigued as soon as you see him, he’s still raw but you have to like his upside. Some more upper body weight and time on the court at the varsity level will continue to benefit him.
Westover HS Senior Guard Justin Ward: With a team that features a very high amount of Junior and Sophomore players, the squad needs the senior leadership and experience that he brings. He’s become more vocal on the court and has developed into one of the team’s top perimeter shooters.
