4A State Championship Game Report: Devon Prep vs. Berks Catholic

Last night Devon Prep dedicated extra attention to Harper when he had the rock behind the arc. Thus, Harper (9 pts.) put the ball on the deck and got into the painted area for a couple of tough finishes. Harper also displayed a high IQ and precise passing skills. In the loss, McKoy drained two threes and scored off the bounce repeatedly. McKoy also produced points and distributed in transition. Devon Prep played a physical style of defense on McKoy and when he put the ball on the floor, DP doubled him. He handled the physicality and double teams with poise. He never allowed DP's tenacious defense to speed him up. McKoy's length and non-stop motor enabled him to snare tough rebounds all night. This season McKoy proved to be one of the most talented 2026 guards in SEPA. Smith drained 3 treys on his way to 13 points overall during DP's win over Berks Catholic. That hot shooting display should not come as a surprise as during DP's 2^nd Round 4A victory, Smith popped 4 threes on his way to 14 points. Smith is an automatic spot up shooter. Once he established that fact, Smith did a tremendous job of executing a head fake, followed by side dribble into open space to for a clean look from deep. Other times he followed his fake with a straight-line drive to the rack. Last night Thear drained 3 triples and was 4 for 4 from the charity stripe as he tallied a team high 17 points. In addition to raining in threes and free throws, Thear used his quick first step and tight handles to create off the bounce for himself or teammates. His ability to get into the lane, draw the help defense and then slip a pass to the dunker spot was impressive.
