Recruiting Report: Luke Siwek (2018)
Rosemount guard Luke Siwek has been one of the top scoring weapons in the South Suburban this 2017-18 season but he hopes his team will play better soon.
“We got off to a rough start but have slowly started to play a lot better as a team,” Luke said. “We had to replace four starters from last year so I knew it would take some time for us to gel as a team.
“So far I’m pretty pleased with how I’ve started the season, I’m averaging 21 points a game and leading the team in assists.”
Luke started the year with 27 points against Roseville and has continued to make shots and create for others.
“The biggest improvement I have noticed in my game is my passing and ability to see the floor better,” Luke said. “I have always been known as a good scorer but I have really been working hard on looking to get others involved.”
Luke, Jacob Siwek, and Andrew Rueter have been able to score for Rosemount but they don’t have many others that stepped into role ready to put points on the board. It takes time as Rosemount is of course replacing four starters.
“We were pretty senior heavy last year and I was the only starter that returned this year. We are a young team but my brother (Jacob) and Andrew Reuter have both had great starts to the season. I feel like we can compete with any team in the conference this year.”
The Irish can compete but they want to improve in their 1-7 record. Luke hopes for team success plus he wants his own strong start to continue.
“My individual goals are to make the all-conference first team and to just be a great leader and captain for my team. My team goal is to make the section championship, and hopefully win it this year because we came up short in that game last year.”
Another basketball thing on Siwek’s mind is playing at the next level. Four division three programs have made his final list of schools.
“Hamline, Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Concordia-Moorhead, and Bethany are my final four schools I am deciding between,” Luke said. “I have visited all of them and I am looking to make a decision in January or February.”
