Recruiting Report: Zach Theisen (2018)
Zach Theisen is entering his final act for Osseo basketball. After playing for his dad for years, the highlight to this point being a state tournament run in 2016, his senior year has arrived.
“I think my role is the same as last year, score a lot and get everyone involved,” Theisen told NHR. “All of our athletes (from last year) are gone, but we have more coming. I’ll have to step up defensively. Our seniors have all worked out a lot this summer and gotten bigger and stronger.”
The Theisen combo have led the Orioles to a 1-0 start. Zach dropped 27 points on St. Thomas Academy at the Breakdown Tip-Off Classic in a strong win. Emmette Page took over the offensive attack with 34 points and seven 3-pointers; to Theisen, the outside shot is one of Osseo’s strong suits.
His current plan for college revolves around one school, but plenty could change in either the winter or spring athletic seasons.
“Right now I’ve basically just looked at St. Thomas for basketball, and I am thinking of a route towards golf, too,” he said. “After golf season I’ll decide where I want to go.
“For golf, if I do well this season, I could potentially get some D1 or D2 looks. We’ll see how it goes. This summer, I golfed pretty much every single day besides basketball in July.”
Whichever direction Theisen goes, he will wait for a while before deciding. And he is still very open at this point.
“I’m going to wait until after golf to pick a college. I’m not in a rush at all. If I go to St. Thomas, I will probably do both sports. If I get some new basketball looks this winter, I will definitely go and visit, check things out.”
